I (Debbie) have been a teacher here at Somerset Preschool for 23 years today! I have taught alot of amazing children and they have taught me as well. I have also works alone side of amazing educators that I consider family. Here's to another GREAT year!

Our hearts are hurting for the people of Lebanon and their loved ones here in Canada. Next week a donation box will be available inside the entrance. All monies donated will be given to the Red Cross for the children of Beirut from the children of Somerset

A sneak peak of work happening Huge shout out to Weavers Landscaping and Excavation for moving our toy shed to a new safe home.

Okay...... please excuse the spelling mistake on the last post,.... the poster should read GET EXCITED, WERE REOPENING SOON, that happened because we really are so excited and cant wait to welcome the children back. Heres a quick summary of whats going on: we are staying in our building and they are currently constructing a floor to ceiling wall to divide the building in two. ... We will have a new fenced in play area at the back near Ropewalk Rd The door at the back parking lot, will now be our entrance We hope to be able to open to your children on June 29, but if construction is delayed, opening may be delayed.. we just cannot guarantee that we will open then. Heres what we will look like: As you can see, we will have no interaction between us and Horizon Health, but we do lose a classroom so now, probably until September unfortunately we can only take the children attending Monday-Friday in the 5 hour ( the old 9-2 times) or all day spaces. Starting tomorrow at 1:00 - 3:30, and all day Wednesday please call 652-3524 to make arrangements to come in and speak with me next week, and your child can have an individual play date with their teachers. We have lots of paperwork to sign, and well chat about the details then. Have a great evening! Heidi

Many children have questions about why the protests are happening, and seeing the news can be scary for adults and children. Here are some important points from an article called Anti-Racism For Kids 101: Starting to Talk About Race . - talk to children about skin colour, that silence about differences might mean that children think it is shameful to talk about. Talk openly about how some people get treated unfairly because of their skin colour. If we see this happening w...e must speak up. - Raise kids of colour to feel proud of their culture and their right to self-advocate - Raise white kids recognize their duties to stand up for injustices - Read books that show diversity, and emphasize kindness and respect for all peoples. We have several of these books in our classrooms and are hoping to very soon read them with our children!

Good morning Somerset Community! Because they will be testing for Covid- 19 until NB enters into the green phase of recovery they will not let us back into the building right now. We are working hard to find a place to temporarily relocate to. It needs to be in the North End and in good condition for our children. I understand that the delay is hard, and we want to open for you as soon as we can. Cross your fingers for us that we have some happy news soon. Good evening Somerset Families, We do not yet have a solution for opening our doors while the Covid-19 Assessment Site is using our building. We are working closely with our local licensing team and officials in Fredericton for a plan that will help us recover. This means regrettably that there is no possibility of us opening next week. We are sorry for the delay, and we are hoping for good news soon. We are missing our children and cannot wait to greet them.We are telling ourselves what we always say to the children we are learning how to wait, its part of growing up Please give them a hug from us! Hi Somerset Families. Yesterday the Premier announced that Childcare could reopen on May 19th. I have read all the information that has been provided and believe we could follow the new normal however we need to find the answers to how long Horizon Health is using our building before we can give you more details. Dear Somerset Friends and Family, Weve all been asked to make huge changes in our lives to fight the Covid 19 pandemic. We have many friends and family members fighting our war on the front lines; at the hospitals, driving the city buses, working in the stores, care homes, and for the Government. Somerset Preschool has been called to help with this battle in a way that we could never have imagined a week ago. As you all know our space is in a building that is owned by the Pr...ovince of New Brunswick. Soon you will start to see lots of activity around the building as the Horizon Health Network needs use of the building for the fight. They are not using the childrens classrooms. I was able to get in to remove all the childrens belongings into the classrooms, and lock up all of our materials. We are all working from home, and we will not currently have access to our space. All of our food, and much of our supplies have been donated to One Change/Nick Nicolle Community Center as they are still serving the community. We have been well assured by both the Province of New Brunswick and Horizons team that a complete and thorough deep cleaning and disinfecting will be done when this fight is over. Please understand that our plan for reopening will probably be different than other child care centres. Please be patient with us as we continue to put your precious little ones safety first. Your Educators are here for you, and we will be reaching out next week to each family to check in on how you are doing. I understand that this is a very emotional time for you and it is for us as well, but through the tears, of missing the children, and closing our doors, Ive come to realize that we are an incredibly strong community and resilient in recovery. We have been around since 1972, and this is definitely another chapter in our story, but never the end. The people who are in need of our building are heroes and deserve our respect, compassion, and confidence. We can only step up and step back to let them do their jobs. Please keep them in your prayers that they stay healthy both mentally and physically. Good morning everyone! I just wanted to say how much I miss my littles.One of the things I miss the most especially during these uncertain times is how the children find joy in the smallest things. Whether its getting excited over their favourite snack,song or seeing their friends in the morning. It's the sweetest thing to watch! Huge shout-out to the Youth Enhancement Program (YEP) for the generous monetary donations to the North End Food Bank Association and the Saint John Emergency ...Food Program which are assisting families in Crescent Valley. The YEP is a registered charity that raises funds to help support the nutrition programs at Hazen White - St. Francis School including, breakfast, lunch and snacks and is able to add additional foods like fruits & vegetables to existing resources. The YEP also has a Muffin Club that has volunteers and youth baking healthy muffins for fellow students, and it helps provide backpacks of emergency food for families during the school year.
