The Business and Professional Women's Club for Brampton has done so much to support #Brampton women, especially as we work our way through COVID-19. This evening I participated in BPW's AGM to talk about their work and how our Government is taking strong action to support women during the pandemic. We agree that an inclusive recovery is essential to ensure that we build back better. Our Government is increasing women’s access to financing, networks and advice empowering them... to thrive which goes hand in hand with BPW's critical work. I am incredibly proud of all that you continue to do supporting professional women in our community! BPW Brampton See more

I'm a proud member of the Canada-Philippine Parliamentary Friendship Group working to encourage greater engagement between our two countries. This afternoon, we were thrilled to meet and welcome the newly appointed Philippine Ambassador to Canada, Ambassador Rodolfo Robles. I am proud to be well connected with local organizations of Filipino-Canadians including our senior clubs. I look forward to another productive year of working together with Canadians of Filipino heritage.

Nepal and Canada share strong ties and the common goals of global peace and prosperity. I was thrilled to join Concern-Nepal Canada last night to celebrate 56 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Canada! Thank you to all directors and members for organizing such an engaging virtual gathering. Celebrations like these bring us together to take a pause and truly recognize the importance of our people-to-people ties, business and cultural connections at home and abroad. Sending my warmest wishes to the Nepalese community here in Brampton South, and all across Canada.

Yesterday we came together virtually for Laadliyan Di Lohri, marking the end of winter and welcoming the longer days ahead. I would like to wish a #HappyLohri to all those families celebrating and hope you are doing so safely! Thank you Laadliyan for all that you do to empower women in Brampton, especially in the South Asian Community. Your work does not go unnoticed.

Big announcement, #Brampton! I was thrilled to join The Hon. Catherine McKenna this morning to announce an investment of over $38.8 million in the Downtown Brampton Flood Protection and the Riverwalk project. We're protecting our future by making upgrades that will not only protect our residents and business owners but will also revitalize and transform #Brampton’s downtown core.... Thank you to my Federal Liberal #TeamBrampton MP colleagues for your tireless advocacy on this issue and many others. We're truly ensuring that City of Brampton gets its fair share. Through the construction, rehabilitation, and expansion of important infrastructure assets we are better protecting Brampton from extreme weather incidents. Applications are now open for the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy, another lifeline for hard-hit small businesses in our community. Over the last few weeks, I've spoken with numerous small business owners who continue to face the economic impacts of COVID-19. I know that your resources are stretched and you’ve been asking for more ways of support. To all business owners - your feedback is always welcome and has been used to modify our response. Our Government will contin...ue to be there to see businesses through the pandemic, ensuring we get through the winter and the second wave of the virus. Through the new Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy, the hardest hit small businesses could receive a subsidy of up to 65%. This support is retroactive to September 27. Learn more at http://bit.ly/2UTGvMu

#BramptonSouth, today our community has entered lockdown. We must double down, and reduce our contact to protect our families from COVID-19. New restrictions have come into effect in hotspots across the province. In Peel, this means only gathering with those from your home, and a recommendation to only leave the house for essential reasons. We did it in the spring and I know that we can do it again. We must #StayHome if possible and limit ourselves to what is truly necessary.... Those not following the rules should be held accountable. To those businesses worried about closing, please rest assured that we will continue to have your back. Bramptonians now is the time to support local businesses by opting for delivery, takeout or curbside pick-up. Download the COVID Alert App for free as an added layer of protection, if you’re showing symptoms, get tested. And keep listening to experts like Dr. Tam. We’re all in this together. https://bit.ly/3gRMuK9

Snowy and wet evening in #Brampton - a perfect opportunity to have an insightful chat with the members of our Constituency Youth Council and the Minister of Transport Marc Garneau. My youth council members asked the Minister about the Passenger’s Bill of Rights, helping Canadians get their money back from airlines for cancelled flights, helping our airline industry workers and businesses and his story of going to space 3 times! Interested in volunteering and joining my youth council? Send me an email at [email protected]

Some more encouraging news this week, with early data from Moderna claiming its COVID-19 vaccine is 94% effective. We’ve already signed agreements for millions of doses, and Canada will be ready. We have one of the most diverse vaccine portfolios, with 7 candidates in the works worldwide. Our Liberal government is leading the way and investing in keeping Canadians safe. While this is welcome news, we must continue to keep up with our public health measures. Wash your hands,... wear a mask, and practice physical distancing. Link: https://reut.rs/2KguRJx

Yesterday we recognized #worlddiabetesday2020. Initiatives like the #Dynacare4Diabetes campaign are critical in Canada's fight against diabetes. We know that by spreading awareness on diabetes we can make a lifetime of difference for individuals that identify early warning signs. I was proud to join Dynacare, a healthcare solutions company headquartered in Brampton this afternoon to announce they are bringing their diabetes wellness initiative to #Brampton in the spring of 2021. The campaign will ensure more Bramptonians are aware of diabetes health risks, ways to monitor, and lifestyle choices to enjoy a better life. Learn more: https://bit.ly/2UtKzTi

We know that here in Peel, we're experiencing the second wave of COVID-19. This week in Health Committee, I asked Minister of Health Patty Hajdu about how the Federal Government is working together with the region to curb the spread. Since the beginning of the pandemic, she has been extremely accessible and for that, I am so grateful. The Federal Government is funding a new isolation space in the Region of Peel that will allow residents who test positive to remove themselves from their family household to reduce the spread. Minister Hajdu also touched on our beloved seniors in long-term care, and the necessity to create national standards on LTC. We agree that increasing our testing capacity is essential as well, and Minister Hajdu shared that 4.1 million rapid tests have been distributed to the provinces to date.

It’s National Child Day! An opportunity to celebrate and recognize the young people in #Brampton who contribute so much. Since 2015 our government has invested to grow the middle class and help families get ahead. That is exactly what Bramptonians expect. The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) supports the parents of over 24,000 young #BramptonSouth residents and will help pay for winter clothes this season. Our Government is: Committing to a Canada-wide affordable early learning ...and childcare system; creating up to 250,000 more before and after school spaces, and helping 9/10 families save money with the Canada Child Benefit. We have also provided funding to Kids Help Phone to support children and youth with mental health supports, something that I am particularly passionate about. Please see the Prime Minister’s statement: https://bit.ly/3kODU0M. Happy #NationalChildDay!
