We would like to give a very special thank you to Alexis and St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School for hosting this week’s Virtual Sports Festival! This would not have been possible without them! Over the past 14 years, St. Mildred' s-Lightbourn School has hosted the Special Olympics Hometown Games Soccer Tournament. Special Olympics aims to engage those with intellectual disabilities in improving their physical fitness and including them in their celebration of sport with the opp...ortunity to participate in a series of athletic competitions at the provincial, national, and world levels. My school, St. Mildred's-Lighbourn School, has been involved in hosting events with Special Olympics Ontario for many years. Beginning in 2004, St. Mildred's has hosted a Special Olympics Soccer Tournament each spring. The year 2019 marked the 15th time that Special Olympics Athletes enjoyed playing the world's most popular game on our soccer pitch with the help of the Phys. Ed. Leadership class and senior prefects. In addition, St. Mildred's has been involved in various fundraising initiatives over the years in support of Special Olympics Ontario. My involvement in helping with Special Olympics Ontario this year occurred by happenstance. My original co-op was derailed due to Covid-19 but because of my interest in Phys. Ed, I was connected with Special Olympics Ontario and asked to support their Healthy @ Home Program by developing a series of activity demonstration videos that young athletes could watch and actively participate in. I am enjoying the challenge, and I am glad to have the opportunity to be a part of something much bigger than myself. - Alexis Hryshko-Barry

It was an awesome day at Monarch Park Stadium! Everyone was having lots of fun, and we got to see some fantastic bocce. A big thank you to all the coaches and players, who were having a great time all day long. And of course, thank you so much to our volunteers from Birchmount Park and David+Mary Thomson!
