Happening this Tuesday! Come see the creative side of your peers and they provide artwork on the theme "Wisdom in the Wilderness".

The Sophia Society of Tyndale 17.09.2020

Wisdom is defined as "The ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting". In the pursuit of justice and truth, one cannot deny the great injustices which have occurred in the past and even in the present towards People of color that have plagued our nation. As a group devoted to seeking wisdom wherever it may be, The Sophia Society stands with our brothers and sisters of color and recognizes the work that must be done to help the great change that we are seeing ...in our society today. This is not simply 'an American problem', this is not simply an issue of 'a couple racist people', this is a universal societal problem that can either be progressed or changed depending on how we as brothers and sisters under God can come together to work towards equality for all. "Now more than ever, illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. In times of crisis, the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single Tribe." -T'Challa "The Black Panther" Tyndale University

TYNDALE ARTISTS, WRITERS, AND POETS We are calling for: - paintings - drawings... - sculpture - photography - digital media pieces - written poetry or other short creative writing - performance poetry or spoken word to be presented Art, poetry, and spoken word have been the means of not only expressing deep and turbulent emotions but processing them for centuries, and we are a part of that tradition. Thus, in March, the Sophia Society of Tyndale will be providing a space in which the expressions and voices of Tyndale artists and poets can be experienced. It will be an exhibition of original visual art and written/performed poetry, exploring how the expression of lament, grief, loss, depression, loneliness, doubt, etc. leads to wisdom. Artists, yes it requires courage and vulnerability to put your work where it may be experienced by your peers, but your voices need to be heard. Your stories need to be told, visually and audibly. To officially submit a physical or performance-based work to the show, please fill out the below form as soon as possible and you will be contacted with further details: https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSd1jMnh6F7rJIf7J/viewform If you are interested in submitting a piece but have not yet created that piece, or you have questions, please contact us at [email protected] so that we can follow up with you throughout your creative process. Submissions are due February 26th, 2020.

Truth is subjectively determined by our cultures and context. No worldview can be objectively true. Our culture should emphasize difference, plurality, and tolerance in order to embrace the subjectivity of our knowledge. These are general tenants of the Postmodernist thinking that has become commonplace within our Canadian society. How does this societal thinking affect education and academic culture? Is it harmful? Is it helpful? Our panel of Professors will discuss this question and try and bring clarity to our thoughts regarding this subject. Join us on Monday the 11th to hear 3 views on the effect of Postmodernism on specific disciplines.

The Sophia Society of Tyndale 21.05.2020

Happening Tonight at 7! Come join us to hear Dr. James Robertson speak on the changing relevance of the Church within Canadian Society. The event will be held in B321. If you are unaware of where this is, the map provided below will guide you there. Hope to see you there!

The Sophia Society of Tyndale 10.05.2020

One can look at the history of the Canadian church and argue that it has fallen from a place of respect and importance within society to a place of irrelevance. How has the church evolved through Settlement, Confederation, World Wars, and the '60s into the establishment it is today. On Monday September 30th at 7pm, Dr. James Robertson will be presenting his research on this cultural shift and speaking on its effects on how Christians should act within our culture today. It's a necessary issue to consider for any Christian hoping to have an impact on a secular society. Join the Sophia Society on September 30th as we host Dr. Robertson in Room B321 (In Seminary Hallway) to discuss this issue. If you are not yet convinced, check out the ad that he made for his course of the same topic below.

Welcome everyone back to Tyndale for another year of fun, studies, and Sophia Society Events! We just wanted to take some time to introduce our group to 1st-year students and those who may not already know who we are. The Sophia Society is a student-run organization that strives to put on academic events for the Tyndale Community. We try to foster critical thinking and dialogue about important issues facing ourselves and our culture. Last year our feature event was a 5 professor panel discussing the issue of whether war is ever just. We hope to see a lot of new and returning faces to our events this year. Our first event is coming up Monday, September 30th, and there will be more information on that coming out soon. See you there!
