I am honoured to recognize each of the 2020 recipients awarded the Athan McEwen Memorial Scholarship Congratulations Natasha Kalmakoff of Dr. Martin LeBoldus and Lucas Kuntz of Miller Comprehensive!! These scholarships are not only awarded to individuals who have shown an outstanding academic accomplishment, but also for their involvement and volunteer work within the community and their continued contribution to the school. ... My hope is that these well-deserved scholarships assist in opening the gateways into both of your bright and successful futures. Well done! In addition, I am so excited to share with you all a very special email & essay written by Natasha. When I asked the Grade 12 students at LeBoldus why they felt they deserved the Athan McEwen Memorial Scholarship, this is what I received from Natasha. With her permission to share, I have also included her beyond amazing essay and not only because she speaks of Athan, but also because of the positive and powerful impact her words will have on othersjust WOW!

2020 marks another bump in the road of grief. Athan would have been graduating this year and even though he couldn’t be there in person, I know he was watching from above sending all the graduates a big congratulations and best wishes for success in the future, as do I. This year was definitely not how anyone would have thought a graduation would’ve looked. The missed milestone weighs heavily and comes with a lot of frustration for these students, as it has robbed them of t...he chance to celebrate their 4 years of hard work that has ultimately prepared them for the next phase of their life. I truly believe that things happen for a reason and that something good always seems to come out of something bad. No different than any other Angel Momma, our biggest fear is that our child will be forgotten and I must say, LeBoldus did a phenomenal job putting together the Virtual Graduation. Though it is very bittersweet, I am so amazed and filled with tears of joy that warms my heart for all the mentioning of the boys Athan, Dylan and Adam......those who have touched the sun. Missing you something awful my boy We had a beautiful ceremony at the cemetery today and my heart was so full to see all of Athan’s friends there. They sent 50 balloons (biodegradable ) with personalized messages to him and seen some of their social media pictures of a once again spray-painted pavement at the South Leisure Centre, honouring Athan and their friend Dylan I also sat with all day today designing his headstone.....finally @ Regina Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home

Christmas is only 10 days away and I just can’t seem to get into the Christmas spirit. I love everything about Christmas. The above normal decorating, the Christmas carols and most of all, the time spent with family.
