The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights. Do you want to raise daughters who can get their rights in the society? One of the first things you need to teach every kid is Gender Equality. #SDGs #genderequality #empoweringgilrs #DIBI #soroptimist #ecr #LYD #UN #DayofGirls

Jean Skillman, our precious member, has made about 500 masks since March. Some are in silk and cotton, some in cotton, some in double knit for winter. They have either ear loops or an over the head loop of elastic. The masks are available in limited quantity to persons who would like them as an appreciation gift for a donation of 25$ to Soroptimist International of Toronto through Canada Helps. Your donations receive a tax receipt, which effectively reduces your donation amount. The face mask of your choice (with your choice of elastic) will be mailed to your address. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/silk-masks/

Greek philosopher Aristotle once defined different kinds of friendships. One of which is "friendships of the good: the people you feel a life bond with. Suzanne Degges-White, Ph.D., in Psychology explains in a "friendship of the good", you value who that friend actually is, strengths and weaknesses alike and there is sufficient trust between the two that the relationship’s quality and depth outshine those of other types of friendship. Other authors describe friendship of the... good as a soul-to-soul relationship. It does not depend on the necessity or regular contact. Because all of those can change. In our current context, COVID-19 restrictions can make it impossible to do things we used to do together. As a Soroptimist, I have experienced "friendship of the good". This friendship is strengthened by reaching beyond our bubble and a greater cause is connecting us all over the world. Soroptimist Toronto met with Soroptimist Scarborough, GB a few days ago on Zoom and I have been thinking: life situations could never stop the Soroptimist movement since 1921 and nor can COVID-19! Happy friendship day to all Soroptimist sisters around the world <3 (This post is inspired by an article written by Jim Taylor in "Lake Countr Calander".
