Many things can feel out of our control during this crisis. Being prepared for potential realities can provide peace of mind. https://lklaw.ca/blog/stay-safe-and-be-prepared-video/

Family Enterprise Succession Last week I had the opportunity to attend a conference on Family Enterprise Succession. My biggest takeaways from the course were the shocking statistics: only 30% of family enterprises will actually be successful at transitioning to the next generation and 97%(!) of the family enterprises that fail at transitioning do so for non-tax or non-legal considerations. Having worked in corporate and estate planning for a number of years, I get a front ro...w seat on the impact of succession. Whether large or small, simple or complex, I get to see how the lack of planning devastates families (not to mention their wealth). The lack of planning, unfortunately, is the norm not the exception. The amount of industry, businesses, and wealth that has accrued south of the Fraser over the past few decades is enormous. The lack of planning is alarming. As my practice evolves, I am going to spend more energy on helping family enterprises transition to the next generation. This includes, as a starter, educating family enterprises on the importance of succession planning. If you or someone you know is ready to have that conversation, do not hesitate to reach out for a chat.
