5 Senses Cleansing Ritual In many healing traditions each season is an invitation to cleanse. Fall is an optimal time to cleanse. If you are looking for a way to cleanse that is not the usual food or juice options, here's a cleanse that helps us to stay grounded by focusing on our 5 senses.. Give it a try by focusing on 1 sense per day for 5 days or more as you like!... Hear: When you wake, listen to the sounds of nature, kirtan, or other soothing music to start your day with positive sounds. Speak kindly to your family and avoid turning on the morning news right away. See: Upon waking, splash your eyes 36 times with cool, filtered water to refresh and awaken the eyes. Taste: Before eating or drinking in the morning, use a tongue scraper to give 3 to 4 scrapes from the back of the tongue forward to the tip, pulling off any white, yellow, or brown layers of toxins that are on the tongue. Rinse your mouth and the tongue scrapper with water between each scrape. Then, dissolve tsp salt in a glass of warm, filtered water and gargle 3 to 4 times. Smell: To rid your nose of germs and bacteria, in a clean, purified neti pot, dissolve 1/8 to tsp of salt in filtered warm water. Over a sink, pour half of the solution through one nostril, letting it seep out the other nostril. Repeat on the other side. Gently blow your nose. Then, apply 12 drops of nasya oil in each nostril edge to lubricate the nose and protect mucous membranes. Touch: Do an exfoliation massage (garshana) to prepare skin for absorbing oil used in warm-oil massage (abhyanga). Using a dry loofah or bristle brush make light, lengthy strokes over your body towards the heart. Make circles at the joints. Continue brushing for 2-3 minutes. Then massage warm oil into the skin and allow it to soak in. (reprinted from PranaShanti Yoga Centre, Ottawa)

4 Spots Left! The next 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) starts September 12th. This one weekend a month format is an accessible way to dive deeper into the ...depths of Yoga. Topics covered include, asana (postures), pranayama (conscious breath control), anatomy, Yoga philosophy, meditation, nutrition, mantra and more. As of now, we plan on meeting in person at Charlottetown Yoga Space while physically distancing. However, we are ready to take the training online if necessary. The Maritime Yoga College is registered as a Private School on PEI and is a member of the Yoga Alliance. 82 students have graduated since 2014.
