WE’RE OPEN!! We LOVE our community and we are happy announce that as of June 08, 2020 we will be back up and running! However, in order to help stop the spread of the Covid-19 infection, South Carleton Physiotherapy has taken the following steps:... 1) We have integrated Virtual Physiotherapy Services through Telehealth for clients who otherwise might feel or be at risk with an in person visit to the clinic. 2) Although we have always had excellent cleaning protocols before and after every client, we have increased these protocols to include disinfection of ALL surfaces touched and all equipment used by our clients. 3) Installation of a plexiglass barrier at the front desk. 4) Removal of high touch items (such as magazines) from the waiting room. 5) Removal of all cloth covered chairs replaced by plastic chairs that can be disinfected easily. 6) Reduction in the number of chairs in the waiting room to provide for physical distancing. 7) All clients will have their own TENS or EMS pads (if this treatment is needed of course). 8: Provision of hand sanitizer to be used before and after your visit. 9) Mandatory mask usage by both clients and staff. 10) Increased hand washing protocols. 11) Reduction of the number of treatment rooms used, and the number of clients seen per hour in order to provide for physical distancing. 12) Reduction in the number of staff personnel working at one time to provide for physical distancing. 13) Increased and regular cleaning of all high traffic areas. 14) Changes in how we handle payments and receipts. Contactless (over the phone) payment and email receipts will be offered to those who wish to go this route. 15) Emailing of forms that can be filled out at home in order to reduce time spent in the waiting room. 16) Adopting a call before you enter the building policy. 17) Adopting a No extra visitors policy except for essential helpers or parents of minors. 18) Signage throughout the clinic on hand washing, social distancing, signs of infection (front door) and waiting room protocols (front door). 19) Active screening of clients and essential visitors through Covid-19 questionnaire prior to your visit. 20) Active screening of all staff members before their shift with a stay home policy if they are sick. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience these changes make for anyone. However, in the interest of keeping everyone as safe as possible, they are necessary at this time. My staff and I look forward to seeing you all again and also to getting back to what we do best, that of serving our amazing community! Sincerely, Kim and staff at SCP

Catch phrase of the month: VIRTUAL PHYSIO! Interested in finding out more? Call us at: (613) 838-9995 or... Email us at [email protected] We would be happy to send you an information package. Stay safe everyone!

South Carleton Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic 21.06.2020

To all of our current clients, as well as the rest of Richmond and surrounding areas, South Carleton Physiotherapy is still here for you!!!! Sadly as per orders from the powers that be, we are still unable to see clients at our physical location.... HOWEVER, we ARE able to set up VIRTUAL appointments through Telehealth video conferencing. Wondering what that might look like? Well here is a link from the Ontario Physiotherapy Association that may help explain. https://opa.on.ca//Virtual-Care-Information-for-Patients.p In addition, many insurance companies are now agreeing to pay for virtual services, and in some cases without a doctors referral. Here is a list of a few that have confirmed to the OPA that this is, in fact, the case where they are concerned. (Recommend contacting your own insurance company to confirm though). https://opa.on.ca//2/04/EHB-Insurance-and-Virtual-Care.pdf If you are interested in learning more about virtual rehabilitation and /or would like to set up an appointment, please give us a call at (613) 838-9995 or email us at [email protected] or contact us directly by messaging our page We at SCP would be happy to help you out! STAY SAFE EVERYONE!!

Covid-19 Update As an update to our previous post, we would now like to inform everyone that, due to the current recommendations by Public Health, the Prime Minister, and the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, starting tomorrow (Tuesday March 17th) South Carleton Physiotherapy will be taking a break for a couple of weeks in order to help stem the spread of the Corona 19 Virus. During this time we will be answering calls remotely so that we can keep in touch with our clie...nts and rearrange bookings as necessary. In the meantime, we will be praying that all of you remain safe and healthy. And if there is anything we can do to assist you or make this time a little easier please let us know. Looking forward to returning to service soon!! Sincerely, Kim and SCP staff

South Carleton Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic 28.05.2020

To our amazing community, We at South Carleton Physiotherapy want to let everyone know that we are currently still OPEN for business. HOWEVER, we also want to let you know that we are taking the COVID-19 virus VERY seriously and are doing everything that we can to make sure that your visit with us is as safe as possible.... We have always disinfected beds and changed linens before and after every client and we have always had a practice of thorough hand washing. Now, we will be spraying all surfaces that come under human contact and we will be doing this on a regular basis. So, if it takes a few extra minutes for us to bring you into the treatment room, please be patient as we are doing this for the good of everyone. We will also be monitoring everyone that comes through our doors with verbal questions and likely a written questionnaire. As a staff, we are monitoring ourselves and our families closely for any signs of Coronavirus 19. My kids are staying home and my husband works from home and so our only jaunts out are for essentials, and for me (and occasionally Chris) work. So far so good!! We are all doing well! In the event that our status at the clinic changes (and as you are aware, things can change rapidly) we will make the necessary calls and inform our clients accordingly. This all being said, for the safety of our community we would ask that ANYONE who has the following: 1. Fever 2. Cough 3. Shortness of breath 4. Has been out of country within the last two weeks 5. Has come into contact with someone who has a known case of Covid-19, please call us and let us know. We will be happy to reschedule your appointment for a time when either when you are feeling better or when your self quarantine time is finished. Finally, wed like to take this opportunity to thank all of our amazing patrons for their unfailing support. And, wed like to say that if there is any other way that we can help support this awesome community through this very difficult time, please let us know. Sincerely, Kim and SCP staff

Her name is Hannah Kilby and her work can be found on Facebook and Instagram under unmooredart or on the web at www.unmoored.ca. She has graciously allowed us to display one of her creations (Crescendo) at the clinic, and so feel free to drop by and check it out any time we are open as it is for sale.... Great job Hannah!

Saw lots of people out shovelling this morning. Watch your backs please! Try to avoid twisting and keep the loads light and close to your body! Here is some additional info from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

South Carleton Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic 24.01.2020

Hey everyone, with all of the new fallen snow out there shovelling is going to be inevitable. Watch your backs please! And to our awesome and amazing teenagers, this would be a great time to pay it forward and help your elderly or infirmed neighbours. Remember to shovel extra wide paths to accommodate walkers and wheelchairs.... Thanks in advance guys! Richmond teens rock!

Phone all fixed now, we are GOOD TO GO!! But heres the thing... You know the old adage If it aint broke, dont fix it!... Well apparently that phrase is never truer than when dealing with the phone line! Try something new they say...itll be better/faster/newer they say.... Then someone on the technical end pushes the wrong button (or the right button at the wrong time) and PRESTO, the world is upside down, only to be corrected by 2 hours on ANOTHER phone because the one you depend on is clearly not working! Going home to decompress now. Have a great evening everyone!!

FYI: to all of our Physiotherapy clients, SCP WILL be up and running for as long as daylight holds, power or no power. We have water for flushing toilets, and my manual skills work just fine. Also most of our machines (except ultrasound, debit/credit and printer) work without power, or are battery charged. ... Actually might just be the inspiration I needed to finally figure out how to hook a power supply up to the stationary bike etc... We still take cash and cheques. Landline phone works, as does our pencil and eraser for bookings. Boo yah to the old fashioned way! And as you can see, our sense of humour and sarcasm are still quite intact!! See you tomorrow! No excuses! Unless of course you are in dire need, in which case please let us know how we can help!

Hey all, Several people have asked me this question so I thought Id clear up any confusion once and for all. The question is: ... If my family doctor or surgeon refers me to, or is connected to, a certain Physiotherapy office or clinic, do I have to attend THAT clinic or can I go where I prefer? Here in Ontario Canada the short answer is that you as the client ALWAYS have the choice! You may choose whichever physiotherapist you prefer and/or the location that makes the most sense to you. In fact, the referring physician SHOULD be providing you with options even if they are connected to a clinic. The only exceptions to this rule are as follows: 1) you are using WSIB, in which case the clinic you choose must be able to work with WSIB clients 2) you are an MVA (motor vehicle accident) client, in which case the clinic you choose must be FSCO and Hcai licensed. 3) you are in a situation where you will be covered by OHIP, in which case you will need to seek out a publicly funded clinic (there are a few designated clinics in Ottawa). In any case, I hope this information helps shed some light on the subject. If you have any further questions on this subject, please dont hesitate to give us a call.

Barefoot Worlds For all of you who are still following and wondering how training is going... Well, up until last Thursday morning it was going quite well. I ha...d been out there every second day (following my cardinal rule of taking 24 hours between training sessions for rest and recovery - btw this rule is SUPER IMPORTANT for all athletes!! More is not ways better and muscles need to rest in order to build back what has been broken down!) Anyway, that particular morning I was in a poor frame of mind as Id just had an argument with my son, and being frustrated, I jumped into the water without stretching properly. So two major faux pas here on my part: 1) not keeping emotions in check 2) not stretching - FYI I know there is a huge push for active stretching, and thats all good, but passive stretches still have there place and my experience has shown me that both types of stretching should be done prior to an event. The result was less than stellar and I ended up blowing backwards out of a back toe hold position. The same position that is on my Facebook cover. How did it feel? Well I didnt get actual footage but the video below might give you some idea Am I hurt? Yes. Likely a severe strain/ tear of the Peronei muscles left leg (right not as bad). I havent ruled out the possibility of a fibular avulsion fracture but Im not getting an x-ray - dont want to know! (Disclaimer: for all my past present and future clients...NO I do not recommend anyone else making this decision...this is my choice alone and I will live with whatever happens) Can I walk? Yes, able to walk fairly normally now. Can I ski? Yes. Went out today for the first time.... painful but doable. Will ski again Thursday and then will take several rest days to heal again. Nationals is on the 4th. Worlds starts on the 11th. This could get interesting!! Hit the hyperdrive Chewie!!

Barefoot Training! For those of you who are still following and interested, thought Id share part of todays training session with you. BEAUTIFUL MORNING!!!!... 8:30am. Rain just stopped, River like GLASS! NO BOATS! First up: Wake Slalom! Scoring in competition goes like this: You get 2 passes. Each pass is 15 seconds long starting from your first attempted crossing. Usually one pass is done forwards and one is done backwards to get full credit for all crosses performed. Judges, timer, videographer and driver are in the boat. Crossing on 1 foot will give you 1 full point. Crossing on 2 feet will give you 0.5 of a point. If you start crossing on 1 foot, but then touch down before you get to the other side, you are downgraded to 0.5 for that cross. Your raised foot has to be clear and visible to the judges. The idea is to rack up as many points as you can in the 15 seconds. At the end of the second pass, your scores will be combined to give you your total. Todays session went really well! Still have some cleaning up to do though...back wakes are a little wild! Enjoy!!! And everyone have a GREAT WEEKEND!!!!
