South Paws Covid-19 Policy Appointments only please NO walk in visits at this time. To make an appointment please call 519-797-1568 and leave a message, I will return calls when I get a chance. When you arrive only 1 person will be permitted at the dog drop off gated area. Please look to make sure no people or dogs are in the drop off area. You’ll be asked to remove your dog’s leash, collar/harness and any pet clothing and place the provided lead on your dog. I will promptl...y retrieve your pet and begin their groom. Appointments will be spaced to allow for proper cleaning and disinfecting in between clients. Please try to ensure you are punctual for both drop off and pick up times. When you arrive for pick up I will bring your dog outside to the gated area to meet you. I will accept exact cash (no change) in the plastic baggie provided as payment. Willow is a two year old spayed female house pig needing an urgent home due to a change in her family's circumstances. Willow is very loving and affectionate. She loves to cuddle with her humans and cats. Like all pigs she love to root, and cuddle in her blankets. She is great with kids. and currently lives with a 10 year old boy. She has always been gentle and patient with him. Willow is very much a lovely house pig. She knows many commands like go in your house her pen, inside, outside, on the grass etc. And is fully house trained. Willow definitely has a silly side and seems to enjoy making people laugh and loves lots of attention from her humans. **FOUND YESTERDAY EVENING** Oct. 1 If anybody knows of this lost kitty please msg me!! This kitty found me near the Beiner Trails in Port Elgin. Doesn’t have a... collar, has green eyes, and a distinctive white spot on right side of black back spotted area. Super friendly! Aw I was walking and the kitty was meowing when I noticed it. I came back and the kitty was still there and was shivering when I picked it up. I let it just hang in my garage with the door open all evening and it didn’t leave. Haven’t checked if it is a boy or girl yet, although it is warm, has access to food, water, litter. If anybody knows of someone missing a kitty in this area, please ask, feel free to msg me. I’m going to contact Southampton animal hospital for any further care. Thanks! hope we find this amazing baby it’s home

Project Warm Dog and the Thanksgiving Miracle This weekend myself and Massimo Gelao drove to Winnipeg Manitoba to deliver Project Warm Dog. A few of us set out ...a few weeks ago with a goal of saving as many dogs as we could, helping as many other dogs as we could, and giving back to the communities that need a little extra help getting items not so easily gotten. The response was overwhelming and humbling. We raised almost $6000 Canadian dollars to build dog houses for our northern communities. We received so many donations of warm winter wear and children/teens activities/games that the weight alarm went off in the truck and we will need to make another trip to deliver the second van load of donations. We spent hours sorting through the wonderful donations (both human and canine) and are thankful for everything. A large number of dog rescues worked together to pull this off and that allowed us to leave Winnipeg yesterday morning with 57 dogs on board. Most of these dogs were mothers with their litters of puppies and teenaged dogs. We had one hound dog momma with a litter of 10 one week old puppies. We had some very special dogs on board this run. One very large female dog was heavily pregnant and is very badly in need of leg surgery. She struggles to move her big frame and it is clear to see she is in pain when she walks. She arrived into care not long ago and we made the decision to put her on the transport, as help and a chance was secured for her in Toronto. She went into labour in Thunder Bay around 7:30 pm last night. The first puppy was out at 8:30 pm. And so began our Thanksgiving miracle. Momma gave birth to 5 healthy (huge) puppies on the TransCanada highway, and she did so flawlessly and without interference. We were simply her cheerleaders. We changed course with the transport and went directly to the fosters home so that momma and pups could rest in a quiet space. I am thankful that the puppies all came out healthy and that Momma can raise them, her last litter, in peace now. We left with 57 dogs and arrived with 62. Me and Massimo get to play Santa Claus and deliver the dogs and have all the fun doing it but the truth is there are so many people involved in something like this. Thank you to all the people that made this project come together. To the fosters in both provinces who open their homes to these animals. To the people who donate their time working for rescues that save these animals. And of course to those who chose to adopt a dog and help an animal in need. My heart is full this Thanksgiving. Thank you all so much for your support. Ps. As I am not actually affiliated with any of these rescues and they are all humble, I will brag for them. They are all in it solely for the good of the animals and while none of them advertised it they all sponsored the spay and return of at least one female dog each back on the frontlines. And the level of cooperation and respect shown by all parties on this trip made me feel humbled to be included with such great selfless people. Just spotted a black and tan hound and a springer-looking black and white dog running together in ravine behind Tyendinaga drive. Could not catch them they are running.

My daughter says the most sweetest white cat with a blue collar showed up at Waterloo Park in Port Elgin about 10:45am behind Pizza Delight. She has green eyes and apparently was coughing and sneezing and maybe on the slim side. She has kinda a bald patch over her eye.

Reminder: Southampton pet hospital is the local pound for cats and dogs! Message their Facebook with a photo of your lost pet to see if it’s there! Please don't phone as it would interrupt their services to their clients and emergencies.

Please care and share for Bumble: (This is the boy who was found at the train station; we posted him on our FB page in September and he's now ready for adoption...) Bumble aka Bobby is an approx. 10 year old neutered male pug. He's a loving, happy senior gentleman who loves his walks and sunbathing on the deck and also napping. He adores people and is friendly and social with everyone he meets. As noted, he enjoys his strolls around the neighbourhood and respectfully meets dogs along the way but is not overly interested in engaging. Bumble is housetrained, not destructive or vocal when left alone and travels well in a car. He likes attention but does not seek it constantly and is very content to doze and quietly watch his human. Bumble needs a home without other dogs; we initially had him in a foster home with other dogs but he displayed resource guarding behaviour and needed to be moved to a dog-less foster. We can't comment on cats or small children as neither foster home had cats or small kids. He becomes anxious when crated both in the car and in the home. He's recently been neutered and has had dental surgery and a small skin tag removed from the side of his eye. Small bones from turkeys and chickens can easily become lodged in the gastrointestinal tract of an animal, and are easily chewed into slivers which can puncture through intestines. Signs of an intestinal blockage can include extreme lethargy, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Fatty people food will also cause Pancreatitis, a painful condition that causes: nausea, vomiting, fever, lethargy, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and decreased appetite. During an attack, dogs may take a 'praying position', with their rear end up in the air while their front legs and head are lowered onto the floor. If the attack is severe, acute shock, severe depression, and even death may occur. If you think your pet has ingested something they shouldn't have, or are displaying any signs of illness, please call your veterinary clinic right away!

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is seeking assistance from the public in finding the owner of a dog involved in a biting incident that occurred in Owen Sound. On Tue...sday, September 22, at approximately 7:00pm, a man was bitten by a brown and white boxer mix near the corner of 14th Street West and 4th Avenue West. The dog was at large; no leash or collar or owner present. Staff of the Grey Bruce Health Unit need to confirm the dog is not infectious with rabies. By verifying the health of the dog, the victim can avoid receiving the post-exposure rabies treatment. UPDATE: The dog is a small red dog that looks like a red fox Contact Amy with any sightings or if found: 519-377-4356. We've recently had a call from someone wh...o was driving past our clinic on Highway 21 and spotted a thin Lab Mix looking dog run across the road and into the bushes/trail area behind our clinic. Our staff went out to see if they could spot the dog but no luck. If anyone is missing their dog in our area this may help with a general direction of travel. See more
