Last month, the SSEF received a generous donation of $5,000 from the Royal Bank of Canada to support the St. Mary’s School hot lunch program. How did this happen? A friend of St. Mary’s, who is an employee of RBC, took the time and effort to apply for a grant through her employer’s charitable arm. This hot lunch program ensures that St. Mary’s students have food during the school day. We find this critical to student health and success and ensures that students have the nut...rition they need throughout the day in order to learn. With the security of a school lunch, they can focus on their schoolwork and reach their potential. Five thousand thanks to RBC and its employees from all of us at SSEF for supporting our students, especially during these difficult times.
Back in March, our Treasurer Laura Prince sat down with Brian Peddar on South Shore Vibe to talk about the SSEF. Thank you Brian, et un gros merci à Television Rive-Sud-TVRS, for this amazing opportunity to talk about our charity! Check out the segment here.

According to @Volunteer Canada 93% of volunteers do so to benefit the wellbeing of their community. Did you know that the South Shore Educational Foundation is run entirely by volunteers? The Board of Directors is run by a group of past and present RSB parents as well as community members with an interest in supporting public education. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Board for all their time, energy, and commitment. We all benefit when our ...public institutions are well funded and supported. If you are interested in volunteering with the SSEF send us a message - there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

The link between a healthy diet and a developing child/teenager's overall health, well being, and cognitive and social development is well known and documented. Unfortunately, not all RSB students live in food secure households. This not only negatively impacts their physical and mental health but also their social and academic success - and this has a ripple effect in the classroom. In the absence of a provincial school based food program, the SSEF supports students through our "Food Bank" fund. Support a student now - click the "Donate" button at the top of our page and choose the third option "Food Bank" from the drop-down list.
We strive to be good stewards of the gifts that you invest in the SSEF. That is why the Board of Directors adheres to the Association of Fundraising Professional's "Donors Bill of Rights". Read about your rights as a donor here: https://www.afpnet.org/ethics/enforcementDetail.cfm... If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected]
