South Abbotsford Church 17.12.2020

This verse is one filled with hope! It reminds me (Kelly) of one of my favorite verses that's found in Isaiah 43:19 that says, "For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?" God is the One who makes things new. We may feel discouraged, saddened, overwhelmed, frustrated, etc with the way things are in our world. But HE makes all things new. As we keep reading this chapter in Revelation, we read about the new Jerusalem; THAT is something new and incredible that we can be sure of. He is faithful to keep His promises, and He WILL make all things new. #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture

The book of Revelation can feel overwhelming, in part because of the great destruction and judgement we read about. It makes us uncomfortable to think of God as anything other than loving and gracious. And He is loving and gracious, but He is also just. Knowing that we serve a just God, should move us to repentance and surrender; that is where we experience the grace of God. If we remain set in our ways, and in our sins, we will experience the judgment of God. What are your thoughts about this topic of judgment and the justice of God? We'd love to have a conversation in the comments; or you can DM us. #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture

The praise of God is a mighty and powerful sound. What does your praise of Him sound like today? Whether it is strong, sure, and loud, or small, quiet, and from a weary heart, you are part of the collective song of praise to our God. Praise the Lord!... #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture

Across this city, or whenever you are reading this post from, let's lift up our praise to God together! He alone is worthy! In the comments, write out your praise to God - let us worship Him, our holy and awesome God! If you've got kids with you, have them join in! Ask them to praise God with their words and share their words of adoration in the comments as well. #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture #worship

Short Stories: The Rich Man & Lazarus We are probably quite good at turning our eyes away from needs in front of us. We are not ignorant. Check out this short clip from this week's worship service video - full message is on our website.... | Link in bio

Here's a short clip from Christ the King Sunday. We can easily say Christ is King in a big way; but do we live it out in the details of our lives? Who or what have you served more consistently in this past year? Watch the full message on our website | Link in bio

Tonight! An extra hour of sleep? Or stay up an hour later? Whatever you do, don't forget to turn your clock back one hour!

Living honorably means we are the same in public as we are in private, and vice versa. Are you living honorably right now? Take a few moments to be still and silent before the Lord and ask Him to show you if there is any inconsistencies in how you're living. #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture

We are called not to be childISH, but childLIKE - with hearts that are humble and sincere. Consider the state of your heart today. Is it sincere? Is it humble? Or are you proud and arrogant, dishonest and insincere? Allow the Holy Spirit to show you honestly where your heart is; and then reach out to a trusted friend to encourage, support and hold you accountable where God calls you to change.... #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture #lifetogether

Both will be on our website at 5pm today. Let's be sure to care for one another!... #UNexpecting #lifetogether #ChurchAtHome | Link in bio

Following Jesus will cost you. The world will hate you. Friends may not understand you. Family may reject you.... But the promise and hope Jesus gives, is greater than the cost. If you're facing the challenge and pain of being mocked or rejected for your faith, would you send us a DM and let us know? We want to pray for you and support you in that. #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture #prayerengagement

It's easy to get caught in seeing things through our human perspective, but we are reminded in this portion of scripture, that God's perspective may often look different than ours. The question then is, are we willing to give up our perspective, and open to seeing God's? #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture

These were the words of Jesus to a man shortly after having cast many demons out of him. The man wanted to follow Jesus, but Jesus had other plans. Jesus wanted him to go back to his village and tell others of what He had done for him. How about you? How often do you share with others the great things that Jesus has done for you? If that's not something you do often, why? Maybe it's because you've never really stopped to take stock of how good Jesus has been to you in yo...ur life, and as a result it's never top of mind in your conversations with others. Maybe it's time to change that! Why don't you set aside some time yet this week to simply recount God's goodness in your life, both in the big and the small ways. The closer those things are to the surface of our hearts and minds, the greater the chance that we'll share them with others. Did a different verse jump out to you from our reading today? We'd love for you to share that in the comments. #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture

We can tend to assume that facing storms in life means that God doesn't care, or that we are going to drown. Whatever we face, we have a choice: worry and fear, or trust in God. What storm are you experiencing that you are struggling to trust God in? We would love to pray for you today - send us a DM (share as much or as little detail as you'd like), and we will pray for you!... #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture #prayerengagement

This paralyzed man and his friends sought Jesus out for physical healing. They believed Jesus could heal him. After the effort (and disruption) of getting this man through the roof to get him near Jesus, there may have been some surprise - and disappointment - that Jesus' words weren't physical healing and restoration (at first). They were the forgiveness of sins. How often do we come to Jesus, expecting a certain kind of healing? A certain answer to our prayers, and feel dis...appointment when He addresses our needs in a different way? This man had his sins forgiven, and then he was also healed physically. Would it have been 'enough' to have his sins forgiven? Is it 'enough' that Jesus heals your every sin? Or do we praise Him only when our healing looks the way we want it to? Share your thoughts in the comments - we'd love to hear! #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture

Do we recognize the complete power and authority of God, and our comparative frailty? Does that lead us to tremble in awe and reverence? The earth, God's creation, recognizes this and obeys. Will we, today? Take a few moments now to consider this. #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture

In this chapter, we read about some dramatic conversions from dark to light. The early church was growing and it was powerful! Do we believe that God can and will do the same today? Are we willing to participate in spreading the message of the Lord widely? #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture

"Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true." Acts 17:11 Are we digging in and examining Scripture? Check out Pastor Matt's thoughts around this verse today. #biblereadingplan... #submissiontoscripture See more

This passage refers specifically to God’s miraculous rescue of Paul and Silas after they had been thrown in prison, accused of causing a commotion in the city. At the same time it’s an apt description of the work God is up to in the world; releasing people from all that keeps them from experiencing true freedom in Christ! As Jesus himself said, I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full! Perhaps today you find yourself feeling imprisoned in some way. ...Maybe you feel trapped by sin. Maybe you feel like you’re chained to sickness, depression, poverty maybe a spiral of hard circumstances that just seems to never end. If today they cry of your heart is for God to release you from the prison you feel trapped in, send us a DM. We’d love to know and be praying for you. Was there something else from today’s reading that jumped out to you? We’d love for you to share that in the comments! #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture

In many places in the book of Job we are reminded that God is infinitely greater than we are as human beings. The answer to this rhetorical question is clearly meant to be "no one". While on the one hand this might cause fear for some, for those who know and trust in the goodness of God, His sovereignty is something to be welcomed, even if His ways can't be fully understood. He is the creator and we are the creation...and that's a good thing. #biblereadingplan #submissiontoscripture
