WHAT IS THE STORY THE CORONET BAND IS TELLING US?? Most of us don’t have an x ray machine in our tool box.. So how do we get a closer look to what is happening ...to the internal structure of the hoof? We take look at the coronet band/ hair line and learn to recognize healthy structure. Looking at the coronet band from a later/ medial view as well as dorsal/ cadual view ( from the front and the back of the hoof) we can start see some of the imbalances that happening and affecting the internal structure . When we understand the hoof is subjected to forces that comes from the ground and from the body of the horse ( be it in stillness or movement) we can start to see what the tissue is doing when yielding to this pressure. Combining that with understanding of anatomy, we start to have a very close look to what the bones and soft tissues in the hoof capsule are doing. In a healthy hoof the coronet band should be straight , not arched, and should end up in a straight manner, not curved towards the heels nor the frog . The angle created of the coronet line to the ground in a lateral view is very between 20-30 degree depends on the horse. In a front view the coronet band should be parallel to the ground. That will indicate the coffin bone is sitting correctly in the hoof capsule and that there are no extra pressure of hoof wall that is being pushed up against soft tissue. Why do we need to know about this? When we understand the hoof, what affect it and how, we can start making changes that will benefit the horse, create comfort and healthy function. More explanation in the photos. Note- It takes sometimes years to correct how the hair line is , so please consulted your hoof care provider on the matter .

A little trivia for ya
I really just don’t understand the horse market right now. Here’s an example. 6 year old papered mare amazing papers rides great, youth suitable, loping the b...arrels ready to expo and she will trail ride also. Sorrel. Asking six Kay. No interest. Not one person who even wants to see her. Why you ask? She’s a SORREL. Grade 3 year old blue roan filly, 30 days riding can get a little broncy when left off, never been off the property, little spooky and cinchy can’t catch the right leads, asking four thousand five hundred. Sells within 2 days... Color has ruined the horse market. This is not your colored VS sorrel typical post. Buy what you want but if your dream horse is standing right in front of you fits everything you want but the color that’s the problem. You know how many ads I see wanting color absolutely no bays/ sorrels I get the fact if you have the money and you want a specific color awesome. But being so narrow minded you miss the opportunity to look at some really nice horses becuase they aren’t colored hate to break it to ya... but bay and sorrel are colors just like a roan and a buckskin and a palomino. When I’m buying horses to train I look for a good mind above it all. I don’t care if it’s purple with pink polka dots. A good horse is a good horse regiardless of color. DONT. BUY. FOR. COLOR. BUY. FOR. YOUR. SKILL LEVEL. I’ve had every color under the sun.. never noticed that a buckskin performed better then a sorrel or vice versa. Color doesent mean better performance, better bloodlines, it means nothing. Open your eyes and don’t look down upon a sorrel or a bay. Have you ever seen a slicked out chromed out sorrel in the summer? Or a nice bay that’s got some dapples coming through? You should. It’s breathtaking. Rant over. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
