It's been awhile since we did a 'Weird Law Wednesday', but then again what hasn't been weird about 2020? Prior to a 2013 update, there was a bit of a gray area when it came to riding and signalling turns on your bike in Edmonton. Previous laws stated that it's mandatory to use hand signals to indicate turns, but those laws also stated it was the law to keep both hands on the handlebars!... Updated to state that 'hands must be on handlebars' except for when signalling or shifting gears, we should note that it's still illegal to take one (or both) feet off the pedals unless stopped! #WeirdLaws #WeirdLawWednesday #Cycling

Weird Law Wednesday: Did you know that Alberta has an entire regulation committed to the proper practice of acupuncture? It’s true! It’s called the Acupuncture Regulation and it’s a subdivision of Alberta’s Health Disciplines Act. The regulation defines what acupuncture is and, among other things, regulates health and safety standards and advertising permissions for the acupuncturist profession! Weird Law Wednesday: Did you know that it is illegal in Alberta to own a pet rat unless you have a permit? Seriously, it's covered in Section 11(2) of the Pest and Nuisance Control Regulation!
