In celebration of seniors week, we would be highlighting some of our services for older adults. The Safe Seniors Strong Communities initiative (SSSC) continues... to expand its outreach. With South Vancouver Neighbourhood House as the Hub, more seniors service providers have been invited to join as our partner organizations These partner organizations offer a strong presence in the community and will help reach out to and connect more older adults to SSSC services. The services offered include volunteer assistance with grocery shopping, check-in wellness calls, virtual friendly visits, friendly phone calls, prescription pick-up and delivery, and a delivered frozen meals program that offers delicious and nutritious affordable frozen meals delivered to seniors homes. To date, South Vancouver Neighbourhood House has provided over 2,500 wellness check calls to 1,100 seniors in South Vancouver. These calls have been made by staff as well as new and returning volunteers referred through bc211. Fifty-eight new volunteers have joined the program to assist with calls and grocery/prescription delivery. All of these services are available for anyone over the age of 65. Any seniors in need of support are encouraged to connect with bc211 by dialing 2-1-1 or by visiting the website www.bc211.ca to register. bc211 is a confidential, multilingual telephone service that operates 24/7. #happyseniorsweek

Heart Hunt kids Project: There's a great post on the Neighbourhood Digest (in the App Nextdoor), app about spreading love around the 'hood by putting up a heart in your window or property for others (kids) to see. This is a project for young children who are walking or being walked around the neighbourhood and can then "hunt" for hearts! Hearts can be made out of anything, which is part of the project, and put up anywhere!

Hey South Hill.....hope everyone is healthy and safe during these trying times. Neighbours have suggested that we try Window Walking which is a fun way stay connected in the hood during social isolation. Follow the attached photo to find the theme (next one is Animals on March 23) create some artwork and hang it in your window. Take a walk alone or with your social isolation group and look for the art others have created and posted in their windows! Have fun South Hill and stay safe.

Let the river run. Let all the dreamers wake the nation! VCS is celebrating 10 wonderful years of singing together Fri, Feb. 28th, Tupper Auditorium. The 60 m...inute concert will be filled with fun, reflective and inspirational songs. Some of our favourites! The final mass choir piece Let the River Run arranged by Craig Hella Johnson will be performed by 140 singers. It will have you humming as you leave. Im so excited that the VCS Adult Choir will be doing two of my folksong arrangements Cod Liver Oil (humourous traditional Newfoundland song) and O Chi Mi Na Morpheanna Mist Covered Mountains (inspirational Gaelic song from Scotland). My brother is currently fostering 2 cats, but he desperately needs to find another foster home for them over the holidays. Theyre from a rescue organization c...alled Straight Outta Rescue in Vancouver and there is an adoption fee, but it covers all their necessary shots etc. Not sure what else it covers. Theyre 2 years old, named Paco and Pedro and they came from a situation where the woman was evicted. I think it may have been a hoarding situation and these poor guys have been uprooted enough. Please share this message widely - and if anyone is able/interested in fostering these 2- please contact me, and I'll get them in touch with my brother Marc.
