Are you donating to local charities this holiday season? Do you want your donation to make a difference in your community, and help to protect and restore the local environment? Why not consider donating to your local Conservation Authority! SNC is a non-profit, local environmental organization that relies on donations and self-generated revenue to spearhead certain environmental initiatives across its watershed jurisdiction in Eastern Ontario. In 2020, donations helped to fu...nd Conservation Area accessibility upgrades, tree planting on public lands, and community free tree giveaways to help increase regional forest cover. Donations also help to fund SNC’s environmental outreach programs for local youth, including summer Fish Camps, the outdoor Maple Syrup Education Program, and educational programming delivered in schools. You can make donation towards: a particular Conservation Area for property or trail upgrades; memorial trees or benches in memory of loved ones; native wildlife habitat restoration projects; or tree planting. Good news: our tree removal crews finished ahead of schedule at the W.E. Burton Conservation in Mun Russell Twp, which means the park's trails will be re-opening for public access this afternoon! #ICYMI SNC closed this Conservation Area last week so crews could remove over 150 dead or dying Ash trees infected by the Emerald Ash Borer. Not to worry, SNC will be planting replacement trees in the spring! Learn more on the W.E. Burton Conservation Area here: https://bit.ly/3mgPsuI

It's #ThrowbackThursday! Here is a picture from our archives of the Larose Forest in Prescott et/and Russell during the 1990s. #DYK the 10,944.7 hectares (27,045 acres) forest is the second largest man-made forest in southern Ontario, and in 2011 was called an "unappreciated world leader as an example of environmental sustainability. The roads and trails that plow the Larose Forest for more than 180 kilometers are ideal for snowshoes and fatbikes, and the cross-country ski t...rails stretch for more than 60 kilometers in the heart of Larose Forest.
