Southport Horticultural Society

Check out the newly renovated Gateway garden at the Beer Store parking lot in Southampton. HUGE thank you to the #townofsaugeenshores and in particular to staff Lori and Frank. This would absolutely not have happened without you Lori! Lori designed the garden and coordinated with the works department and the Southport Horticultural Society. The garden is now a more up-to-date representation of our awesome community. Many of the materials were repurposed. Example, the ne...tting is from the old soccer nets! Again due to Lori's inventiveness and ingenuity! You will also see a commissioned art piece in this garden. We would like to introduce you to the Southport Sentinel. Lorraine Boucher who is a local artist was commissioned for this Heron. She spent countless hours on this beauty and we are very grateful to have her not only as a member of our Horticultural Society but in our community. Lorraine is a certified Master Paverpol instructor. Paverpol is an environmentally friendly, non-toxic, water based textile hardener that adheres to all natural materials. Lorraine created the Sentinel by forming the body and then using textiles and other assorted materials which were shaped and built and then hardened to produce what you see displayed. A HUGE thank you to Lorraine Boucher! As well as a facelift to the gardens, the sign received brightening as well. Again, thanks to Lori from the Town of Saugeen Shores! 2020 PLANT SALE FUNDRAISER - A GREAT SUCCESS! Thank you SO much to everyone who donated plants, donated their time and purchased plants ... all of this combined to make this our BEST plant sale ever! It was so awesome to see everyone respecting social distancing, wearing masks, waiting patiently to go into the area where the plants were available for purchase. Just such an awesome day it was! Chilly for sure but mother nature totally cooperated and held off the rain! ... Hope we don't miss anybody on this list ... if we have .. please let us know!
