Sadly, on Thursday October 29, 2020, we lost a most remarkable woman and a great Rotarian. Renee Nicholson passed peacefully at the Peace Arch Hospice. "Rem...arkable" barely scratches the surface of Renee's character and capabilities. With a significant disability (fused hip joints) Renee undaunted, advanced her life and career, most of which with Telus, from where she retired. Her contributions there were many and material as she progressed through position and responsibility. Renee was an RCMP Volunteer when introduced to Rotary by then Sgt. In Charge of the White Rock Detachment, Tom Forster, who brought her into our Millennium (now South Surrey) Rotary Club. Tom was President Elect and, recognizing Renee's organizational skills, attention to detail, thoroughness and capacity to get things done, compelled Renee to be his Secretary! With all her skills, charm and ability to be direct when necessary (in a wonderfully positive way) Renee contributed greatly to our Club. I followed Tom as Club President and I too made it contingent on Renee being our Secretary. She was always so 'on top of things', forward looking and a great organizer. Awesome! Eventually Renee was our Club President. After about a decade in Rotary Renee's health began to affect her and she retired from Rotary three years ago. Her other volunteer activities (and there were several) were similarly scaled back.... Renee's great love was the Pacific Assistance Dogs Society, PADS. She glowed when she showed pictures of the dogs she had sponsored (and our Rotary Club of South Surrey's funded "trauma dog" for Sophie's Place), especially the puppies. I was lucky enough to be with her at Roo's 'graduation' event...Renee was a deserved VIP there! Renee has asked that in remembrance of her any donations could be forwarded to PADS.
