Southwest Day Care & Early Learning Centre is kindly requesting that our community members keep us in mind when gathering their recyclable bottles and cans. If you do not want to go through the hassle of waiting in line, or dealing with drop and go, give us a call and we will come take them off your hands! (We will pick them up). Or, if you feel like braving the busyness, use our drop and go account SWDC to have your bottle money donated to our account. Thanks in advance!
Southwest Day Care & Early Learning Centre has spots available in all age groups from 18 months to 12 years. Open from 6am-6pm, Monday to Friday. Subsidy is available to parents who qualify. Contact the Centre at 306-693-6688 if you are interested in enrolling your child(ren) or if you have any further questions.
A few months ago the teachers noticed that the preschool and Kinders didn’t have a love of literacy like we hope for them to have so we decided to change that! We started reading as much as we could and found some favourite stories and discovered new things! We’ve even been lucky enough to have some school-agers read to us and have started to read some of our favourites out loud with the teachers. To make things even more exciting the teachers introduced a Reading Chart a couple weeks ago. Each book we read we fill in a square together and once our chart is full we are going to have a party! We are growing more and more excited with every line we finish and have been finishing about two lines a week! Make sure to ask your child about what the pigeon ate and who he shared it with!
Group 1 had a ton of fun outside this morning! we started out by doing puffy paint on the cement, and cooled down with a sweet treat in the shade
A little bit of what Group 1 was up to today Finger puppet worms & chalk paint
Check out our volcano! Group 1 did this awesome experiment in the sandbox outside this morning all the kids thoroughly enjoyed watching the lava come to the surface.
Earlier this week Group 1 did pendulum painting outside in the sunshine it was loads of fun!
Happy Father’s Day weekend to all of the dads, grandpa’s, step dads, and male role models out there! Here is a little bit of what we did this week to show our children’s dads how much we love them!
Check out the cute, fun, and child friendly way we have set up how to do temp checks every morning! Now the kiddos will be greeted by a puppy kiss instead of a scary tool
We would like to extend a special thank-you to the McKeen, Olfert, and the Newstead family, who have expressed their appreciation to everyone at Centre by dropping off a cold drink and some little extras to pamper us during Early Childhood Education Month. We are so very grateful!
Just a reminder!!! Whenever SARCAN reopens, it would be absolutely appreciated if our families and members of the community keep us in their thoughts, and donate their recyclable bottles to our swdc drop and go account. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
We would like to send out a huge thank you to Amanda Faye Gaudry-Penner & the rest of our Board of Directors for helping keep us safe and supplying each of our staff members with their own personal reusable mask. Also a huge thanks to the amazing woman who took the time out of her day to make them for us! Stay safe and stay healthy everyone!
Happy Early Childhood Education Month! Come check out our mural in the front window.
COVID-19 Update The Government of Saskatchewan announced our Re-Open Saskatchewan plan and Daycares are in Phase 3 http://tiny.cc/6bd1nz Currently this phase has no date. We will be allowed to have 15 children per area, which would mean 30 for us, which is below our 54 limit, so we will not be fully open at that time. The Centre has been contacting families that may be returning to work in phase 1/2 to see if childcare is needed. If you have not been contacted by May 1, call ...the Centre. We look forward to seeing you and your children as we transition to this new normalcy.
We decided to join in on the decorating of windows in our own style! Make sure to drive by and take a peak!
As a result of the provisions put on daycares as of March 23, 2020; we are limited to 16 childcare spaces. At this time the Board of Directors have decided to offer the spaces to children of essential employees. We will update this page on a more regular basis during the Covid-19 crisis.
Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, and the mandated requirements that have been put in place by the government in order to prevent the spread of the virus, we are saddened to announce that the Fundraiser Steak Night we had organized for March 29th with Cornerstone Pub & Grill is cancelled. At this time we do not have a postponed date set. We apologize for any inconvenience.
We got some new mats that can be interlocked and the kids decided to do some 3D building! We made the #10! They were so proud.
Last week we were learning to count coins. We earned coins and bought special gifts at our daycare store.
The Kinders decided to go for an adventure today. We had a lot of fun in the sunshine.
The Kinders and School Age has a blast with this activity! I gave them some droppers and vials and two buckets of water, one coloured red and one blue. I asked them to make a new colour. They got right to it! Then we discussed millilitres and numbers. After we did a bit of discovery into water tension which they found really cool!
I had to share this picture because one of our kinders enjoyed the sorting activity yesterday so much that on their own vocation they went and grabbed one of the bowls we used and brought it to the LEGO. She made it her own though by choosing to sort out the colour blue instead of by shapes. It makes our hearts so full to see children bringing back learning they had done and putting their own spin on it.
The school age and kinders are on a building week challenge. Yesterday I decided to challenge them to see if they could sort LEGO pieces based on pictures. I tried to stump them by tossing a picture of a wheel into the mix but they were too smart! They sorted so well and it was a great exercise in counting and abstract thinking.
This week we are learning about ocean life.
We are so sad to say see you later to our amazing psych nurse in training that spent the past few weeks here with us. We’ve learned so much and made great friendships! We spent the last day decorating her and making her beautiful
Our 3 year old group have been busy making their own unique, valentine themed, masterpieces this week! Here’s a few to show (the sticky gems were a big hit!)
We are hiring! Help spread the word
Thanks to a generous donation our kids enjoyed some free building with pieces of wood! We discussed different sizes and textures, did some exploration into balancing and worked together to build larger towers. What a great loose parts activity that inspires imagination! ‘Blocks offer opportunities to test hypotheses and build scientific reasoning.’ - Gayle Mindes
Picasso said, ‘Everything you can imagine is real.’ Which some of our kinder boys proved true as they used some floor mats to build themselves some couches to watch the other kids play Just Dance.
We had so much fun building an igloo and hiding inside of it. It helped us with our fine and gross motor as well as turn taking all while sparking our imagination!
Our kinder artists have been busy testing out new art mediums. Wax and watercolour mittens and chalk on construction paper.
Fun time doing snow painting.
Thursday afternoon yoga class for Group 2!
"I know I just saw that letter "A" around here a moment ago. Who moved it?"
This week we talked about things that are yellow.
