Sou'West Nova Transit 03.12.2020

Today, December 3, is International Day of People With Disabilities. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of... society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. This year's theme is ‘Not all Disabilities are Visible’ and focuses on spreading awareness and understanding of disabilities that are not immediately apparent, such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, sight or hearing impairments, diabetes, brain injuries, neurological disorders, learning differences and cognitive dysfunctions, among others. The Municipality is committed to working towards improved accessibility by removing and preventing barriers for physical and cognitive impairments. This past year, we have formed an Accessibility Advisory Committee and will be working on developing an accessibility plan. We need to build on this work and continue to drive the changes needed to create a more equitable and inclusive province. These changes will have significant economic and social impacts on people with disabilities, their families, and our Municipality.

It’s #GivingTuesday! Shelburne County and our greater area is home to wonderful organizations working hard to serve our communities, and many have been hard hit by COVID-19 financial impacts! What charity or non-profit would you like to see highlighted today?

FRIEND FRIDAY: We are so thankful to our friends at the Rural Communities Foundation of Nova Scotia for helping us access a grant through the Emergency Community Support Fund to increase in-vehicle safety! The grant assisted us in purchasing multiple airbubbl air filtration units for our fleet and volunteer vehicles, as well as supporting us in acquiring necessary PPE! @CommFdnsCanada @ESDC_GC #ECSFund
