Fuck boys and cold pizza slices. Set in a conservative, small Canadian city, The Gay Card is a play about three gay men who grapple with love, consent, and the hyper-sexualization of the queer community in this modern snapshot of online dating and hookup culture. There are a lot of lonely gay men in the world. We live in a culture of disposable relationships: this culture has been under assault for as long as it has existed. A legacy of trauma, persecution, and death has left... most queer people struggling to connect to ourselves and to one another. The Gay Card invites audiences into the lives of three young gay men who are searching for love and connection. Each of these men have their own experiences and difficulties attempting to thrive in the age of digital connection. This play explores and addresses issues of consent, internalized homophobia, and the intrinsic human need to be loved. The Gay Card examines queer relationship dynamics in a way that is alternatingly funny and heartbreaking. This is an engaging and relatable play for queer and non-queer identifying audiences alike.
