A powerful message shared for #MartinLutherKingJrDay yesterday by Oliver, our Care Specialist of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity: Every third Monday of January, the US and many people around the world honour the civil rights activist Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. It was in August 1963 at The Lincoln Memorial a few miles away from US Capitol where Rev. King Jr. gave a speech to over 250,000 people gathered for justice. It was his famous "I have a Dream Speech. The US Supreme c...ourt had ruled in 1954 against racial segregation but no efforts had been put in place to desegregate schools and other institutions. Almost more than half a century after, the recent events on January 6th, 2021 at the US Capitol, the continued unlawful killings of black people, the questionable efforts to manage clean drinking water for First Nations communities in Canada suggest that US, Canada and the world are still struggling to realize King's dream. I wonder what Martin Luther King Jr. would say if he could see the world today? More than ever, if we are to be honest with ourselves as a society, this is the time that we should and must fight for King's words to be true in every aspect of our lives: that "the children will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character." Here is a short video to watch and discuss with family and friends on how to be the King's of our time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6Au81HuSg

PSA: Scooters in Ottawa They may be fun to ride around town but we're seeing scooters cause a lot of problems with accessibility around the city :( One of our team members recently found two scooters blocking a city sidewalk like this. Unfortunately, it wasn't the first time. ... It may be convenient to leave your scooter anywhere but this can cause some major accessibility issues for others. These scooters can quickly create a barrier. Have fun but make sure to leave your scooter off the sideways and leave the path clear. See a scooter blocking the path? Kindly move it aside #SparkCares

At Spark Lifecare, we always want our team to feel comfortable bringing up topics that are important to them and making a safe place to have discussions. We wanted to share something our team member Carissa shared for #BisexualityDay. "Bi-sexual (and pansexual) individuals live in a weird world where we sometimes are seen as invalid. We aren't "straight" enough for the world, yet aren't "gay" enough at the same time. This is especially apparent if we are in m/f presenting r...elationships, our sexuality is not seen as valid or that it matters." Let’s use #BisexualityAwarnessWeek to continue to celebrate the community, learn about challenges, and be an ally. https://mashable.com//how-to-be-an-ally-to-bisexual-people/

With quick action from our team, we were able to implement new policies and procedures that have ensured the safety of both our clients and staff. Providing the best care possible has always been at the root of what we do and that hasn’t changed. A huge thanks to our team that continue to go above and beyond. #SparkCares
