This time of year we get so many rescued cottontails. Sadly, many are taken from perfectly normal nests. Cottontails are raised in a shallow depression in the... dirt called a form. The mother lines the nest with grass and fur. She only visits the nest a few times a day to feed the babies. She doesn’t stay long. To us, the babies look abandoned, but this is often not the case at all. If you find a nest of bunnies best to do the string or flour test first. If disturbed then mom is returning to care for her babies. Human scent will not cause her to reject her offspring. She will just lick them clean if they don’t smell right to her. See more
