Here’s a Hollywood x Speech Therapy story for you all! Colin Jost is more than just Scarlett Johansonn’s husband He’s a comedian and the head writer for SNL. On Marc Maron’s latest podcast episode of WTF, Colin talks about how he couldn’t speak until he turned 4. He expressed disappointment that his parents couldn’t remember the name of the SLP who helped him, and has tried to track her down with no success. She was ´beautiful and blonde’ and worked at Staten Island Hospit...al some 34 years ago. Colin (to his mother): ‘Wait, you don’t remember this woman who saved your son’s life...who taught him how to speak?’ Maron: ‘You give her a lot of credit!’ Colin: ‘I do. I still give her a lot of credit everyday. I’m very grateful’. They (and even apparently Amy Poehler) agreed that this mysterious speech therapist would probably be happy to hear from him to see how far he’s come. Wouldn’t you? What if this SLP community can band together to help track her down?! Share this post- let’s try to give this speech therapist a wild success story from a past patient. #findcolinsslp @colinjost @marcmaron @amypoehlersmartgirls @nbcsnl

Tele-therapists are getting creative when working with those with attention difficulties! https://www.goodmorningamerica.com//kids-learning-challeng
We had a great speech evaluation with a sweet 35 month-old little girl using digital standardized measures! Even young children can participate successfully in tele-practice with the help of a parent facilitating. The convenience of virtual meetings allow us to break up an assessment into several short chunks to keep the child motivated and working at their full-potential. The dream team pictured here allowed for a seamless session (and consented to use of this photo)!

Check out SpeakAble's latest blog highlighting the benefits of virtual speech therapy for parents and children alike. Tele-practice is fun, we promise - just ask Ben who smiled the whole way through interactive Mario games and a special appearance by Poppy the dog! The service delivery model may be different but the positive impact it can have on your child's speech and language is just as effective as in-person treatment. Consider slowly introducing therapy back into your new routine. Please give us a call if you have any questions! https://speakableslp.com/2020/04/tele-practice-2/

At SpeakAble, we feel very strongly that our role as health care practitioners is to protect the public, and what that looks like may shift as the times shift. In light of COVID-19, we have ceased all in-person visits. This decision is not about being fearful of contracting the virus, and is more about being responsible members of the community. We encourage you to all work together to do your part. We are in this together. In the meantime, we are offering tele-practice services for your children through a secure, HIPAA-comliant video-line. If you are interested, do not hesitate to contact us for more info. Stay well, healthy and most of all, stay positive.
SpeakAble has issued official protocols for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Policies are subject to change as the situation progresses. This mother may have felt awkward narrating her day to her baby, but she is on to something! Describing your daily actions and environment is a strategy that speech-language pathologists often recommend to parents of children who are late to speak. It provides children with a clear model of functional language in use, without any pressure to speak independently. So continue to read the grocery list to your babies or ask them if they like the new top you're trying on- and don't be embarrassed about it! https://www.nytimes.com//making-awkward-small-talk-with-my
