Gung Hay Fat Choy!
This is an excellent graphic from Speech Hiccups that reminds us of the importance of repeatition and practice. Learning involves the formation of connections b...etween brain cells as new synapses are formed. Practice increases the strength and speed of the new pathway and prevents synaptic pruning. If no practice occurs between therapy sessions, progress can be very slow. #speechhearbc # slpeeps #speechlanguagepathology #speechlanguagetherapy #repetitionmatters

At the Super Bowl LV, WAWA's World performed the National Anthem in American Sign Language (ASL) -- what an incredible performance! [Screen recording taken fro...m camera feed provided by CBS Sports.] TRANSCRIPT: Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight, O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
By making minor changes in your child’s physical or social environment you can help make tasks manageable. This could be something as simple as having your chil...d do their homework in an area where they can be monitored and given reminders and encouragement to stay on track. It is always helpful to ask your learner what they feel they need in order to be successful and use that as a guide when supporting at home or in the community. #IndividualLearning #ExecutiveFunctioning #LearnersKnowHowTheyLearn Modify the environment to set up your learner for success.
Great visual of the complexity of reading- a skill that looks easy when you can do it. We can help identify where the difficulty is, and what to do to support these skills.
Now that’s clever! Wonder if it comes standard?
Trust us...the topic WILL come up, whether you are ready or not! It helps to be prepared!!
This is true. Many ways to communicate...

The schools are broken, they said. It must be the teachers, they said. And so they came for us. ... They gave us scripted curriculum so we would know what to teach. Creativity and individuality couldnt be trusted. They imposed state testing so they would know how well we taught. Otherwise, we might just sit at our desks all day. They demanded SMART goals and evaluations so that we would constantly improve. Without them, we would never strive to get better. We were monitored. We were graded. We were told we were lacking. AND THEN. The world shut down. Get rid of standardized tests!, they cried. And they did. They dropped the scripted curriculum. The SMART goals. The evaluations. And you know what? The teachers are still teaching. Theyre using Legos to teach arrays and cookie recipes to teach fractions. Theyre infusing creativity and passion. Theyre staying up all night researching new ways of teaching. Theyre connecting with students like never before. Students are begging to go to school. Families are coming together to learn. No testing. No curriculum. No evaluations. And maybe, just maybe, the problem wasnt teachers after all.
Doing the best we can over here.

Intelligibility refers to how a listener understands the speaker. This is often part of a speech assessment. Thanks @slp.resource for the graphic. #speechhearbc #slpeeps #speechlanguagetherapy
