Is Path Warm? When you suspect suicide, you should ask the client directly about his or her thoughts about hurting himself or herself. Then, take it seriously and get immediate help. IS PATH WARM (see below) is an acronym that was developed by the American Association of Suicidology (2006) to gauge suicidal risk (see Juhnke, Granello, & Lebrón-Striker, 2007). ... It must be remembered that these are guidelines based on risk factors and that there is no foolproof method of determining how suicidal a client might be. However, the rule of thumb is to err on the side of caution, and a client who is exhibiting any of these symptoms (especially ideation) should be further evaluated. Ideation: Does the client think, talk, or write about a desire to self-destruct or to purchase the means to do so? Does the client show an intention to carry out the plan? Substance Abuse: Is the client intoxicated or has he or she been abusing alcohol or other drugs? Purposelessness: Is the client adrift, without a sense of meaning and purpose in life, seeing no meaning to keep living? Anger: Is the client’s mood angry or hostile? Is he or she feeling vengeful toward someone? Trapped: Does the client feel there is no way out of the present situation and that he or she is better off dead? Hopelessness: Does the client have a negative view of the future and feel that he or she is a lost cause or beyond help? Withdrawal: Has the client withdrawn from family, friends, and other supportive people? Anxiety: Is the client experiencing anxiety that interferes with sleep and daily functioning? Recklessness: Does the client engage in risky behaviors, such as driving at high speed or taking other chances? Mood: Is the client experiencing drastic mood swings? Is the client feeling depressed? Part of my self care regime is warm hot tub dips morning and night, and walks outdoors. #Repost @somaticexperiencingint with @make_repost Repost from @sophiehurley.wellness You can get on my ventral vegus nerve as many goddamn times as you want! ... . The vegus nerve is the longest nerve in the body and over 80% sensory. It runs from your brain stem (reptilian brain) and acts like an information highway - connecting the brain with organs throughout the body. Stretching all the way down to the torso and colon like a system of roots or cables. Controlling a huge range of bodily functions. . It's known as being responsible for the mind-body connection, playing negotiator between thinking and feeling. The saying 'trust your gut' I really think now means 'trust your vegus nerve.' . She's the queen bee of the parasympathetic nervous system. HOWEVER, what we don't hear much about regarding the PNS is two branches of the vegus nerve discovered in #Stephenporges #polyvagaltheory. . This theory describes the parasympathetic nervous system as having a survival response just as important and life-saving as the fight/flight reflexes of the sympathetic nervous system. This is the 'freeze' or shut down response of the dorsal vegal branch. The (not so) last-resort survival strategy of the body to protect itself by playing dead for survival. . This freeze or shut down is usually the response the body can get 'stuck' in when we talk about long-term effects of trauma. . Unfortunately there's ALOT of shame in our culture to dismantle in response to the body's freeze reflex but let me assure you there should be no shame in the body doing an INCREDIBLE job of keeping us alive. . The other branch of the vegus nerve, making up the parasympathetics is the ventral vegal (or social engagement system.) The more we can stimulate or activate this vegal super-star pathway (such as deep breathing, longer exhalations, shaking, cold showers, attention to all 5 senses ) the more we can down-regulate both the sympathetic and parasympathetic survival responses of fight, flight and freeze. This in-turn helps us regulate the body (and mind) by signalling that we are safe. Ultimately helping to move us back into a natural state of homeostasis for all-round health and well-be See more

Proud milestone today. 7 more levels to go which should also align with my practicum completing for my Master of a Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. If you don’t know what Somatic experiencing is please message me it is a modality that addresses trauma on the nervous system level and incorporates Polyvagal theory. I also encourage you to follow the @somaticexperiencingint and @drpeteralevine and immerse yourself in any of his littérature and interviews online. I... hope you love it as much as I do. Applying these methods has completely changed the scope of my counselling practice and the healing happening within. #se #somatic #mastersstudent #yorkvilleuniversity #care #body #somatic #healingtrauma #bodywork #wellness #healing #polyvagal #thebodykeepsthescore #speakeasy #speakeasycounselling #telehealthecounselling #vancouvertherapy See more

#Repost @somaticexperiencingint Repost from @self_healers_shine Practicing daily to regulate my nervous system, I use Polyvagal practices created by Deb Dana, LCSW. .... I have been a self healer for years. I worked with an ancient plant medicine 1.5 years ago. I realized after starting my integration process afterwards, that my entire limbic/autonomic nervous system had been rewired. Mind you, I had been battling an addiction to alcohol, an addiction that failed to regulate my nervous system. . After one week at this Life Advancement Center, I was completely rewired. I never asked Mother Ayahuasca to take away my addiction. I asked her to show me Trust. I knew I could not remain merged with my soul if I returned home and did not continue self healing using yoga, meditation, breathwork, eating clean and mostly plant based, journaling and spending time in nature. So, I do it all. Self healing is my lifestyle. I feel as if I got a jump start on regulating my nervous system working with Ayahuasca. I integrate the medicine daily. For me integrating = self healing. . I am so grateful that Polyvagal Theory is being incorporated into the wellness community. It has been an invaluable tool for me as a self healer. I really love the Vagus Nerve; it seems like a jolly nerve, one that loves me to take cold showers and sit in mountain streams in Winter, sing out loud, belt out that OM in yoga class, dance everyday to the Commodore’s, Brick House and gargle just for f*ck’s sake. #Repost @somaticexperiencingint Repost from @integrativehoodriver SIBAM is the acronym used in Somatic Experiencing to recognize what channel of perception one is navigating at any moment. We all have a favorite channel, the one that is our go-to resource when experiencing increased stress physiology. Somatic Experiencing trauma resolution sessions offer individuals the opportunity to change channels and experience physiologic states through various lenses of experi...ence, from the most primitive to the most complex. When we become habituated to a specific channel, we may miss out on some of the greater wisdom our entire organism holds for us. S- Sensation- Learning the language of sensation is a powerful tool in finding organization in a dysregulated nervous system. Sensory processing takes place in the brainstem, under emotions and thought. I specialise in helping clients to establish connections and awareness to their window of tolerance ; so many of us are on automatic pilot and end up in burnout, depression, resentful and hopeless as they pendulante back and forth from over and under functioning in their lives which can be seen in the nervous system as well. Not only do I educate you on the nervous system and how it impacts you but I work on adjusting it so you can stop living in one extreme or another. That balance will give you a sense of vitality, calm and joy. Repost from @abby_vernon_ Learning how to self-regulate your nervous system is a critical life skill! The ability to be with yourself, know what’s yours and what’s not, and have flexible resiliency in your physiology is the gift that keeps on giving. In Somatic Experiencing (all credit to @drpeteralevine) we communicate via the language of sensation to access the reptilian (or primitive) brain where our basic physical responses to stress or threat (fight, flight, freeze)... are housed. This layer also governs balance and basic vitality functions like BREATHING, digestion, circulation, SLEEP, heartbeat, sexuality and ACTION. Why is it important to use this language? We need to get underneath the cognitive brain to access and alleviate trauma, especially implicit or preverbal traumatic experiences. Sensation language is also less arguable. If I’m having a discussion with someone and I notice tension in my body and say, I’m noticing I’m feeling a knot in my stomach right now, there’s really no wiggle room for them to dispute that + I am viscerally claiming MY experience. When you are able to identify sensation, be with it, give it gentle attention and allow it to move through, you help regulate your own nervous system and allow life energy to flow vs getting stuck and looping. Steps to working with Self-Regulation + Sensation (see slides for more): 1. Orient + Discern 2. Observe + Track sensation as it arises and moves 3. Settle + Re-orient to the present moment Notice how you feel as you move through this exercise. What has changed? What’s different? Learn to identify the effects of the shift to better hold energetic capacity and anchor more resiliency. Save this post so you can practice and let me know how it goes! . . . . . . #somaticexperiencing #resilence #peterlevine #sensation #languageofsensation #embodiment #powerofyou #beyourownbestfriend #comehometoyourself #beherenow #presence #practicepresence #embodiedentrepreneurship #sobrietyforwomen #recoverycommunity #edrecovery #recoveryjourney #recoveryispossible #anchors #essentialself #wakingthetiger #healingtrauma #traumatherapy #traumarecovery #s

Clashing of values, incongruent goals and behaviours, misaligned dreams and expectations...how much time have you had to slow down and look at why you are chronically anxious or depressed even though you think you have it all? I hear this over and over, especially amongst they younger generations. It leads me to feeling very curious around society’s relentless pressure for financial and shallow success, the selling of the illusionary dream that having will result in feeling... a lack of this anxiety and depression. The truth is, you can’t feel peace if you are out of alignment with your values (hmmm what are those?), if you are working outside of integrity, you are hiding behind a facade to please others and stay included or accepted- stop moving the goal posts and creating a beast of a life that accepts you as anything less than who you are. Who are you? I would like to help introduce the true you, under all of the strategies to yourself and walk you through greeting the world outside to the real you, a more peaceful you, a congruent and self actuating you.
