JANUARY 26, 2021 To all Athletes, Coaches, and Volunteers of Lethbridge Special Olympics We know you have all been anxiously waiting for information on when we will be able to start up our Special Olympics programs. Currently, we have no plans of returning to play. The board of both Special Olympics Lethbridge and Alberta felt the burden of responsibility placed on the volunteers by the rules, regulations and requirements of Alberta Health Services and Special Olympics Canada... make it not possible to successfully return to play. We will reassess the situation in mid March and determine if the rules from Alberta Health Services and Special Olympics have relaxed enough to start up play. The spring sports are bocce, golf, softball, and walking. We have also been informed that the 2021 Summer Games scheduled for the County of Strathcona have been cancelled. We know this is not what you wanted to hear but we feel we have made the best decision in order to protect the health and safety of our athletes and volunteers. Thank you for your understanding and patience. We look forward to resuming our programs as seeing all of our Special Olympics friends as soon as it is safe and practical to do so. In the meantime we encourage you to continue to stay connected with your Special Olympic friends electronically as you are able to but also make sure to follow Special Olympics Alberta-Lethbridge on Facebook for any news or changes. Please continue to exercise and stay fit in whatever way possible and to follow social distancing and other Alberta Health Services rules. The Board of Special Olympics Lethbridge
