The Story Behind A Mascot The mascot, Pete the Pylon, was a great supporter of Team Ontario at Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Thunder Bay 2020 Well, where... did it come from? Kevin Walker, a 27-year-old speed skater from Special Olympics Ontario - Kingston, trained hard to qualify for Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Thunder Bay 2020. However, right after he found out he would be going to the Games, his doctor told him he couldn’t compete due to an injury. Kevin’s first reaction was sadness and disbelief. Kevin quickly realized he didn't want this situation to be the way he remembers his first-ever National Games. This past week, Kevin joined Team Ontario on the sidelines. He was the biggest inspiration to all of his teammates as he helped them get ready for competition, motivate and cheer his teammates on. To help the team further, Kevin made a mascot called 'Pete the Pylon' to help add some fun and laughter during the Games. This is what team spirit is all about!
