It's time for Christmas songs to practice speech and language! Use the tune of "Jingle Bells" but sing it with FUNCTIONAL PHRASES Singing the words that yo...ur child would like to say is a fantastic way to help him remember the sequence of sounds. Choose any 3 (or 4)-syllable functional phrase and SING it! Need some ideas for some for functional phrases? Check this list of 50 functional phrases I wrote for "Baby Shark": https://wp.me/p807Ox-Gv
Something to think about for Christmas!
Did you know that stress can affect your speech and hearing? Thank you @happycrisps for this reminder. #speechhearbc #slpeeps #audpeeps
Speech language pathologists differentiate motherease from baby talk. Motherease is defined as the simplified and repetitive type of speech, with exaggerated i...ntonation and rhythm, often used by adults when speaking to babies. This is observed in multiple languages, leading researchers to believe this is a universal phenomenon. Thanks for an excellent graphic @thespeechiecorner #speechhearbc #slpeeps #earlylanguagedevelopment See more
The message is always more important than how it is said. Joe Biden is an excellent example and an awesome opportunity for us to bring stuttering to the forefro...nt in our conversations and educate others. https://www.med.ubc.ca//how-joe-bidens-stutter-helps-peo/ #speechhearbc #slpeeps #stutteringawareness
Say what you see. You are smiling! I think you feel excited to visit the park. You are yawning! I think you you feel tired. You are frowning at the televisi...on. I think you feel annoyed because you can’t watch your show. Remember children can’t use their words until they are taught what words to use. #speechhearbc #slpeeps #sel See more
Here is an awesome graphic from Speech Meta Therapy Services reminding us to think about how many different words you can model beyond a label. Remember the pl...us one rule, adding one word to your child’s utterance. For example, if your child says, cookie then you could add a word and model, yummy cookie or if your child says, big cookie you could add a word and say, big chocolate cookie. Practice until it becomes your new habit. This works with AAC, too! #speechhearbc #slpeeps #earlyintervention See more
Remember questions are testing, not teaching. This is a good reminder from The SLT Scrapbook to try telling instead of asking questions when interacting with your child. #speechhearbc #languagestimulation #slpeeps
Today is DLD Awareness Day. Speech language pathogists and families around the world have planned activities to build knowledge and awareness of Developmental L...anguage Disorder. Thank you to our member, Evelyn de Castro who is a DLD ambassador, for arranging to have BC Place and Sails of Light at Canada Place lit up in purple and yellow tonight. If you are in Vancouver can you please take a photo for us and share it here for all of our members to enjoy? Please do your part by checking out the RADLD website and sharing a poster or video to build awareness amongst your bubble. #speechhearbc #slpeeps #DLD123 #RADLD
Here is a great reminder from @southbaymommyandme that when choosing toys for a child, less is more! Passive toys also increase talking, looking and showing, all the things we slps love. #speechhearbc #slpeeps #play

It is not a race; it is a journey. Rather than getting caught up in the notion that our children are "ahead" or "behind", instead we need to soak up who they are right now. Celebrate the wins. Learn from the stumbles. And remember that we are always going and growing. via Magda Gerber

Super important message from Mrs Speechie P. You have nothing to lose by having your late talker assessed by a speech language pathologist, and everything to ga...in. Please disregard the friendly advice of others to wait and see and follow your heart. #Speechhearbc #slpeeps #earlyidentification See more
This is a quote from Temple Grandin who recalls how she communicated as a nonverbal child. This is a reminder that what may look like bad behaviour is actually the most efficient way the child has to communicate their message in the moment. #speechhearbc #slpeeps #autism
