What can you do instead of correcting your child’s language? It’s easy for us to automatically correct children when they make language mistakes! Instead of correcting them, try modelling the correct words for them. For example:... 1 YOUR CHILD SAYS: A doddy! 2 INSTEAD OF SAYING: No, that’s a doggy. 3 TRY SAYING: A DOGGY! Look at the DOGGY! You can help your child learn the correct form of a word by highlighting it in your speech by saying it louder, slower, and more salient. Give this post SAVE and try this tip out with your child!

One of the best ways for our children to learn what they have read is to ACT IT OUT! Bring the story to life!!! I have been reading Fancy Nancy’s Ooo La La Beauty Salon with my 3-year old at home. Have you read that story? In the story, Fancy Nancy set up a beauty salon in the backyard for her mom, offering facials, massage, manicure and pedicure services to her clients (aka her mom). That sounds pretty nice to me and we have already made plans to act this out for real... in our backyard this weekend. Acting it out involves a lot of planning, communication, creativity, and imagination. The weather is so nice lately, try acting out your child’s favourite stories in your backyard, at the beach or at the park! #raisingabookworm #readingstrategies #readingisfun #actitout #kidslearn #learningisfun #readingisfun #child #booklover #enjoyreading

Games are great to target specific speech and language goals! This Bus Stop game is one of our favourites as it can be used for so many different therapy targets, including: s-sound (bus; passenger), pronouns (he/she), relative clause, following instructions, prepositions, sentence expansion, turn taking, future tense, past tense, etc! . . Quick Example: For sentence expansion, you can play this game while using sentences such as The man who has _______ / The man who is we...aring a _______ wants to get on the bus. This game also teaches basic math skills too (addition and subtraction)!
