Many people miss the gum line the area where the tooth meets the gum while brushing. You can clean this area more effectively by holding your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle. Don’t forget the gums facing the tongue as well!

Your safety and well-being is extremely important to us, which is why you will see some new additions at Spencer Dentistry. Every operatory has been outfitted with a Surgically Clean Jade Air Purifier and in our reception area is a Surgically Clean Cascade Purifier. These medical grade purifiers have been developed specifically for dental offices and other health care settings. Each one uses multi-stage purifying technology to remove viruses and bio-aerosols, which helps to clean and re-energize the indoor air. In these challenging times, we continue to update our protocols to safely deliver dental care to our valued patients.

Do you use a hard-bristled toothbrush? Although they sound more effective at removing plaque buildup, toothbrushes with hard bristles are abrasive and can cause enamel erosion. It only takes a small amount of force to get rid of plaque, so it’s best to just stick to a soft-bristled brush and light amount of pressure.

Over a quarter of adults don’t brush twice each day. That increases their risk of developing cavities by 33 percent.

While toothpicks may seem harmless, they can damage your teeth. They can irritate gum tissue and wear on the grooves of your teeth. When you have something stuck in your teeth, clean it out with floss instead.
