Last weekend I took some time away from a custom sculpt that I am currently working on to make the textured beads from Julyia Laukhina’s PCA 2021 class and put them together in a bracelet for my daughter, Heather. I went for neutral colours but still used Julyia's process for colour mixing for a harmonized palette. It's always fun to experiment with tools and other objects to find unique textures! At this time, many artists are taking up the 100 day project challenge making... a piece of art every day and sharing it online. I am impressed by their dedication! I am not that organized and don't work quickly. It is great strategy, however, to get one working consistently and examining new methods of interpreting a single creative process. I've decided to attempt a more realistic challenge for me and complete at least a few of the other tutorials offered as part of the PCA 2021 package over this year. As always, PCA provides a ton of inspiration!

This sweet little toadstool fairy home was recently sent off to it's new location in the US. It was a long time in the works for a variety of reasons so it is very satisfying to finally see it finished. This is the second time that I've sculpted a piece around a jar and learned so much in the process, esp in forming the cap (lid) and applying a rainbow skinner blend over it's surface...tricky job! There was a lot of fiddling around with the base as well to figure out the b...est look. In the end small and simple was the best fit. Anything else seemed to distract from the shape and details of the toadstool. I hope this tiny home is soon filled with happy little fairies!

Here is the last piece I made for Christmas. I've made a few similar arrangements for photo frames before in pinks and pale yellow but I think this deeper yellow is my favorite. I esp love the way they look on this light wood photo frame. Now I need to make one for myself!

Here are the other two pendants that I made as Christmas presents. I have to admit that working so small literally can be "a pain in the neck (or back), esp at 60! I really need to pay more attention to the ergonomics of my work station and raise close up work so that I'm not hunched over.

I can honestly say that this package of 24 video tutorials is an awesome value! All tutorials have now been released and I have watched every one of them. There is a great range of projects and techniques covered that will appeal to clayers of all skill levels. It has been a great pleasure for me as a first time teacher to see other clayers inspired to create my hobbit style fairy door and to share their unique interpretations!

I just got finished with a series of Christmas gifts in my typical last minute fashion. This is the first piece which was actually completed over a week ago but was only photographed yesterday. It's been fun making jewellery again and trying out some techniques that are a little different for me. I wish everyone all the best for the holidays although they will likely be vastly different for most of us. It'll be quiet here with just the three of us (+our dog) but I'm thankful that our extended family and friends are all healthy at the moment. Stay safe and hopeful that better times are ahead in 2021.
