It is with a huge crack in my heart that I share the news of the sudden passing of our Vice President, Chief Dave Traverse. He is a strong leader that has done so much for his community Kinonjeoshtegon and all Indigenous people. I am so grateful for his patient guidance, friendship, and support. I am truly blessed to have gotten to know him, I am overwhelmed by his passing and I will miss him dearly. I would like to share with you a statement from the Board of Directors and t...he Executive Team of TCIG: The Board of Directors and the Executive Team of Tribal Councils Investment Group of Manitoba Ltd. would like to offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Chief Dave Traverse on his sudden passing. It is with very heavy hearts that we face the loss of our friend and colleague. For over six years Dave served as the Vice President on our Board. He led us through some very difficult times with kindness, commitment, and his ever-ready grin and laughter. We find comfort in the knowledge that our sharp pain of loss was born out of the true privilege and honour of working alongside of Dave and being gifted with his friendship and the wonderful memories that he has left for us. We will be forever grateful for our time with Dave. See more

Winnipegger and Indigenous TikToker Michelle Chubb shares her love for her culture, her resilience, and her vulnerability with Teen Vogue. I felt like I needed to start something new to spark up my interests, and TikTok really helped me out with that, Michelle tells Teen Vogue. It’s a spark that quickly gained strength. In the span of just a few months she amassed hundreds of thousands of followers, a captive audience that views her videos which blend Indigenous regalia,... relatable jokes, trendy pop music, and social justice activism millions of times over. https://www.teenvogue.com//indigenous-tiktok-star-michelle #indigenomics #indigenomicshealthcarewithspirit #indigenous #indigenousowned #firstnations #manitoba #canada #winnipeg

It was an honour for one of our own, Kyra Wilson, to join in the picking of cedar for traditional medicine and ceremony. Our thoughts are with Little Grand Rapids First Nation during this difficult time. https://www.cbc.ca//cedar-little-grand-rapids-covid-19-1.5... #indigenomics #indigenomicshealthcarewithspirit #indigenous #indigenousowned #firstnations #manitoba #canada #winnipeg #littlegrandrapids #COVID19

SPIRIT HEALTHCARE GROUP Supports Wellness Family Safety Kits Delivered to Northern Manitoba Communities... Having diabetes can raise the risk of complications from COVID-19. It has never been more important to protect the vulnerable in our communities from communicable diseases, such as COVID-19. To help protect our Indigenous communities, SPIRIT HEALTHCARE GROUP partnered with a northern Manitoba First Nations organization called Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) to access ISC funding and to supply Family Safety Kits to remote communities in Manitoba. The Family Safety Kits include: 20 pairs of SPIRIT nitrile gloves (medium and large), 2 bottles of SPIRIT hand sanitizer (60mL and 250mL), 20 SPIRIT surgical grade face masks, 1 SPIRIT digital thermometer and 1 bar of soap. Having the tools to limit the spread of infection is critically important. The Family Safety Kits are designed to help identify early fever symptoms and control the spread of infection, until appropriate testing and medical care can be accessed. In addition to the MKO supported initiative, Family Safety Kits were supplied to First Nations, in order to support Jordan’s Principle and other healthcare needs. Attached to this post are some photos of our Family Safety Kits being assembled and delivered. We thank MKO for its support, and all our community members who worked hard to make this initiative a reality. #indigenomics #indigenomicshealthcarewithspirit #indigenous #indigenousowned #firstnations #manitoba #canada #winnipeg #mko

On September 17th, Dr. Barry Lavallee was announced the CEO of Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin Inc. (KIM), established by the Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. (MKO) Chiefs Task Force on Health during an MKO Chiefs Assembly on Health in January. Dr. Lavallee is a member of the Metis community of St. Laurent, Manitoba, and a descendent of Duck Bay and Lake Manitoba First Nations. First Nations leaders are already touting the positive impacts of his involvement to date. He’...s smart. He’s connected. He pushes our concerns into the forefront. As Chiefs, we do the same, but the systems readily come to the table because of his high level of education and decades of experience as an Indigenous physician and a systems-educator, said Chief Larson Anderson of Norway House Cree Nation and Chair of KIM’s Chiefs Task Force on Health. All of us here at Spirit Healthcare Group would like to congratulate Dr. Lavellee on his new position. https://winnipegsun.com//b329041e-4db9-4a67-9513-f02fd968/ #indigenomics #indigenomicshealthcarewithspirit #indigenous #indigenousowned #firstnations #manitoba #canada #winnipeg #mko

Marc Miller, the Indigenous Services Minister of Canada, announced an additional $305 million for Indigenous communities to help them in the fight against COVID-19. The funds were approved by the federal government after a petition managed to garner over 57,000 signatures. The voices of those who signed the petition were heard, which helped Indigenous communities across Canada fight the spread of COVID-19. The government is adopting many of the recommendations from the petition. https://www.change.org/p/prime-minister-trudeau-/u/27509174 #indigenomics #indigenomicshealthcarewithspirit #indigenous #covid_19 #covid19 #covid19awareness #indigenousowned #manitoba #firstnations #canada #winnipeg

With the federal government stating that the COVID-19 curve is continuing to flatten in Indigenous communities, Indigenous leaders from across Canada have called for more action by the government to protect those communities against further threats from the COVID-19 pandemic. "Our health-care systems are depleted, and there's so much poverty that exists within that Indigenous health-care system across this country that it's an actual miracle that we never faced as First Nati...ons the impact that the mainstream and all the provinces have," said Isadore Day, the former regional chief of Ontario who is Anishinaabe from Serpent River First Nation. https://www.cbc.ca//indigenous-leaders-government-covid-19 #indigenomics #indigenomicshealthcarewithspirit #indigenous #covid_19 #covid19 #covid19awareness #diabetes #indigenousowned #manitoba #firstnations #canada #winnipeg
