Those who listened to our SportsLit episode with Jerry Howarth might remember he ranks Joe Carter's World Series-winning home run as the third-most important home run in the history of the Toronto Blue Jays. Which means it beggars belief that some people are comparing it to The Shot that Kawhi Leonard made to put the Toronto Raptors into the next round of the National Basketball Association playoffs. https://soundcloud.com/user-242744329/sportslit-s3-e2
When it comes to the craft, there is a struggle to meld the data-driven analysis, which is changing how our games are played and how athletes are valued, and the joy of giving oneself over to just letting things play out and enjoying some flights of fancy. Michael Lewis shared some thoughts about that on a podcast that we highly recommend. https://www.acast.com/yahoofinan/michaellewisonsportsin2018
Open wide for some soccer books!
Season 2, Episode 4 is live (links below in the comments). Rob Simpson, of Sirius Satellite Radio's "Stellick and Simmer" hockey TV show, has published his fourth book. His text, "No Heavy Lifting: Globetrotting Adventures of a Sports Media Guy," is now available from Toronto's ECW Press. While it's not a memoir, it is a very personal book of experiences from Rob's four decades of reporting. Hope you enjoy!
