Spotlight Charitable Children's Community Theatre 07.10.2020

A sad day today when I hear another really really outstanding Community Theater is closing. Hearing others are not sure if they are going to survive or not. Ye...sterday I had a Messager Meeting with our Team with Spotlight Charitable Children's Community Theater. We had to make the decision to wait until at least 2021 before we could even consider doing a show. So many questions keeping me awake. When Isolation is lifted, what will be the new guidelines on the operation of Theaters? Rehearsal Spaces? Permits? What additional insurance? What other Health & Safety Precautions? Liabilities - ESPECIALLY Since we will be open and including people from All Abilities and walks of life? I had written a game plan before Covid so we could be ready to run auditions this summer. It's all out the window now. So far I have heard of 4 Community Theaters which are not sure if they can re-open. 2 are closing for good. Even though the Toronto District School Board is now accepting Permits for the Fall/Winter Season, all we can do is wait to get guidance from Theater Ontario and the Toronto Arts Council. Thank you to all my friends with all the Community Theaters in the GTA. You set the bar so high it's hard to reach it, but your wisdom, guidance and friendship is really appreciated. We may only get 1 chance to run a complete show "Wizard of Oz". It will depend on Grants if we will be able to run "Alice in Wonderland: TMF" the season afterwards, but we hope to try. For now, stay tuned. Once we hear it is safe to re-open Community Theaters, we will post. For the safety and health of all - sorry, no show this Fall. Wishing everyone well. Under the current Covid-19 Restrictions we have had to delay the opening of the Theater. As soon as it is lifted and we secure the permits, we will post the Auditions for "The Wizard of Oz". Stay tuned.

School Permits still pending for our Shows. We are looking at other options. please see note below: Our First Major show, per our promise is still going to be in the Guildwood at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Collegiate, but while the Strikes are still going on we cannot have permits to any of the schools for shows or for rehearsal. ... \ We were speaking about putting on something smaller in the meantime - "Cinderella" Checking out the Palmerston Library Theater. at Bloor just west of Bathurst. Not really accessible. There is an elevator which fits a small wheelchair. Wheelchair ramp is not suited for scooters. 1 change room, lighting booth. Problem is - no access to the stage for people with Mobility Needs. It will work but we promised that "EVERYONE has a place in the Spotlight. = That includes people with Mobility Aids if needed. No change room for chorus - very little parking (paid./saw some kids vandalizing cars as I came up). Chorus would have to come dressed and ready to go to each show. Bonus - it is on the subway & right downtown. So will talk about this to my team mates. For now, Cinderella but cannot cast Mobility/Wheelchair as no ramp to stage. I want us to live up to our promise. Stay tuned nothing is confirmed for now. Thanks Sue

Hi everyone Hang tight. We haven't been able to get into schools to hold rehearsals or book the show now for almost a year due to rotating strikes. We support the Teachers, Administrative, Faculty, Custodians & understand why permits are just on hold across all boards.... Next week, I am looking at a few Churches in the Community. If we go ahead with using a Church space, it means a smaller stage, thereby a smaller show. On the sidelines is our 1995 production of "Cinderella" Stay tuned for an annoucement hopefully soon Also "Can you find the clues?" #TheGreatTorontoScavengerHunt. Coming soon.

This is the first year and we have had a bit of an issue with permits. We will get this sorted and should have more news soon. Many thanks
