#OrangeShirtDay2020 reminds us to talk about residential schools, and understand their impact and legacy. One of the legacies of the residential school system is intergenerational trauma. Intergenerational Trauma and Aboriginal Homelenessness: An Introduction for Hamilton's Service Providers and Community Members, published by the SPRC in 2017, explores what intergenerational trauma is, how it relates to historical treatment of Indigenous Peoples, and how the effects persist... to this day, including effects on homelessness. The report also offers insights into ways mainstream organizations can join in the reconciliation process, help to heal families and communities, and move forward in a relationship of trust, dignity and respect between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. http://www.sprc.hamilton.on.ca//Intergenerational_Trauma_a See more

The @SPRCHamOnt marks Orange Shirt Day in solidarity with the survivors of residential schools. We honour their resiliency, remember the children who didn't come home and recommit ourselves to reconciliation and decolonization. #OrangeShirtDay2020 #EveryChildMatters
