Springboard Performance 21.05.2022

We’re excited to present this free Movement & Circus Workshop in partnership with Inside Out Theatre and NANDA! Join us on Saturday, May 21st from 12-3pm at Inside Out Theatre in Eau Claire Market. The focus of the workshop is to meet and cultivate relationships and dialogue with local artists who would be interested in collaborating on a site specific project in the late summer of 2022.... This workshop will introduce some of the themes, ideas and working methodologies of the piece, including adaptive movement, story-telling, and accessibility as an aesthetic and valued part of a creative process. After the workshop participants are invited to submit themselves to be a part of the performance ensemble. Participating in the workshop is not required to audition but it is a great chance to start building a relationship with the creative team. We are striving to welcome and collaborate with the Mad, Deaf, and Disabled (and any other underrepresented identities that are not listed) community. We are also prioritizing Two Spirit, Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour communities. Register by filling out this form: https://forms.gle/mLBcJfmjwDDcJbsd7

The performing arts ecosystem the artists and our creative workforce is in real need. Our supporters and audiences are at the core of how we can work towards the recovery of our cultural ecology. Your generosity has the power to truly make a difference in the lives of artists and the work of Springboard Performance. It was not easy, but with incredible creative power and the right people, Springboard Performance offered 53 live events in our containR Art Park, bringi...ng together hundreds of people seated (or dancing) safely in their socially-distanced bubbles. This fall, we went where we have never been before - the online realm - and created a platform for over 50 artists to create and perform for local, national, and international audiences. We recognize that as we all navigate the current health crisis, creative community-building work is so essential and needed. Your investment in Springboard Performance can help now more than ever. This #GivingTuesday, donate to Springboard Performance so we can continue to offer inspiring programming and contribute to the well-being of our creative community. BONUS: Donate to us at https://springboardperformance.com/donate between December 1st and 14th and your contribution will be matched by an anonymous donor, doubling the impact of your support! containR by Springboard Performance does not condone the intolerance actualized through defacing of a BLM mural on our site. In the wake of this vandalism, our vision remains to connect communities through art and creative ideas. This includes many murals that express the perspectives of the community and the times, which in the wake of 2020 includes a number of BLM inspired murals. Art and artists can play an important part in a civic discussion, and can offer expressions of... art that can synthesize complicated realities through the art itself, that can surprise, reflect, provoke and inspire the community. Anonymous Artists who painted at containR: We strongly oppose and condemn any actions made to uphold white supremacy, be it from a private citizen, public servant, or institution. We acknowledge that systemic racism runs through the heart of Canadian institutions and Canadian culture beginning with the colonization, oppression and genocide of Indigenous people and cultures that continues to this day. We make artwork in solidarity with struggles for Black and Brown liberation catalyzed by the Black Lives Matter movement. The feeble attempt to erase the words "Black Lives Matter" from a public space underscores the fact that racism is very much alive and well in Calgary. We will continue to create artwork that strives to uplift and support marginalized communities. In the words of assassinated civil rights leader Medgar Evers, ‘You Can Kill a Man, but You Can’t Kill an Idea’.
