I have a huge appreciation for all decomposers as I have large mounds of detritus that accumulate in piles around my garden, waiting for room in my compost bins. At this time of year the woody stems of perennials and weeds in my random piles are starting to break down due to weathering and at the bottom of the pile there is something even a bit more promising...something resembling soil, all thanks to decomposers, especially the woodlouse, the unsung hero of this post.... https://springtimepowellriver.com/hurrah-for-woodlice/
