There is an adage that says feelings are hard to put into words. And until you are faced with that situation, you never truly know how that will affect you. Uwe Finger was a member and Director of SCWA for as what he would say, a hell of a long time, with a chuckle. ... A man of few words, but what he did say- we would all listen to intently, knowing we would pick up a bit of experience and knowledge from a man that had truly been there and done that. Pearls of wisdom were tossed in amongst what was always a well-spun tale, full of humour and laughs and thought-provoking nuggets that would often, hours later at 2am, hit you with a hmmm. THAT’S what he meant." I had the honour of presenting him with a Life Membership at our Banquet a couple years ago. Humbly, but with his ever-present smile, he attended the stage, shook my hand and gave the ever so slightest hug-whispering one more quip that shall stick with me, silently- forever. We lost Uwe last Friday. He was on a hunting trip, with one of his best friends. The doctor has said he passed quickly of natural causes. If there is any consolation, we know that there is nowhere else he would rather be than outdoors, enjoying the backcountry. Now, back to those words I have been so desperately searching for as I write this. Uwe, my friend. The words I cling to that I keep coming back to this whole time are simply Thank you. For the lessons you taught. The laughs. Your dedication. Your friendship. I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. New Dock at Forests For The World Some early ice on Shane Lake didn’t prevent the City from installing a new dock at Forests For The World earlier this week. T...he new structure is a bit bigger and much more stable than the old dock, which was about 30 years old and showing signs of rot and age. The new dock still needs permanent anchoring and connections to the shore, and Parks crews will be improving some of the trails in the area over the days ahead. Please avoid the dock and be mindful of crews in the area as the projects are completed. We are all sick and tired of seeing the illegally dumped garbage around town, trails and in the woods. We are so incredibly grateful for all those that give bac...k to cleaning these sites up, and it's time for KKS Tactical and the community of outdoor users to help. So it’s time to do something about it. We will be taking donations at the store for the Back Country cleanups initiative and putting them towards trail cameras and the equipment needed to install and run them safely. The more you donate, the more we can do to prevent this illegal dumping, and prosecute those offenders. Come on down and talk to one of us at the store and say that you want to donate to this initiative and we will get that started. WE WILL MATCH DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR UNTIL WE HAVE ENOUGH TO HIT KEY SITES!
