With all this rain we’ve had its a good idea to check your sump pumps to make sure they are working.

The finished deck renovation.

Started a deck upgrade for a lovely couple in Spruce Grove. They have an existing deck that still has quite a few years of life left but they didn’t like how the existing railing/seating blocked the sight lines to the beautiful yard. Plus that railing seat was a catch-all for ‘stuff’. I removed 90% of the rail seating and opened up the space immensely. One side was left up because the of higher drop. Once the weather dries, a step will be added to wrap around the newly opened area. Some rot in one area will be addressed when the new step goes in.

During the recent deep freeze we all experienced, I had a troubling issue in my masterbath, which is on the second floor ... ice forming on the ceiling. That can only mean one thing, there is a problem with the insulation in the attic and warm moist air is going through. I waited for the temperatures to warm up before heading up to make an inspection. And what I saw was very surprising. I knew there were a couple of low spots in the insulation, my home inspector had taken a c...ouple pictures and showed me. But I went in higher than he had and saw multiple spots where there was no insulation at all, about 5 in total.I took some pictures to show what to look for. The first picture is what i first saw when going into the attic, it all looks good, insulation is fairly level, fluffy and deep. But when I touched it, there were ice crystals on top, one indication that heat is getting into the attic. See more

To follow up on my last post about checking exhaust ports on your house, my dryer quit drying today. Its still runs heat but doesn’t dry. That means either the hose at the back is disconnected or there is a blockage somewhere. I checked the hose at the back and that is still hooked up ok with no kinks. But the exhaust port on the house ... a first look shows that appearances can be deceiving. Open the flap and there you have it.. total blockage.
