Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) is a healthy whole grain that cooks quickly and makes a great side dish or ingredient for healthy cooking. Here are 3 basic ways to prepare it from Health Stand Nutrition Consulting Inc.: Option 1: Stovetop Rinse quinoa in a fine meshed strainer under water as this helps remove the bitter tasting coating called saponin. Add 2 cups of water (or broth and/or a splash of wine) to a pot along with 1 cup of quinoa and a pinch of salt. Bring to a b...oil, reduce to low and place a lid on the pot until the water has absorbed in about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it sit for 10 minutes and then fluff with a fork. Option 2: Rice Cooker Rinse quinoa as mentioned in the above stovetop method. Add 2 cups of water (or broth and/or a splash of wine) to your rice cooker with 1 cup of quinoa and a pinch of salt. Choose the proper setting on your rice cooker and set and forget until done (for most rice cookers this will be a 30-60 minute process depending on the model). Option 3: Pressure Cooker / Instapot Rinse quinoa as mentioned in the above stovetop method. Add 1.5 cups of water (or broth and/or a splash of wine) to the pressure cooker with 1 cup quinoa and a pinch of salt. Cook on high for 1 minute (yes it is indeed that fast!).
