Sharing community love: On Dec. 10 the Grades 7 and 8 students of Squamish Waldorf School joined Jim Gracie from the Squamish Trail Society at McNaughton Park to lay new crushed gravel along the trail paths. It was a day full of hard work, filling of wheelbarrows, and spreading fresh gravel. The children loved the experience and were proud of their results. Head, heart and hands for the win!
Roll them bones! 206 to be exact. Miss Christine teaches Class 7-8 about the skeleton, as part of the class anatomy block.
Our #2021 student art calendars are ready at the printers! We will be filling all preorders this week - with a few extras leftover for sale at our outdoor holiday store this Friday between 11 am and 2 pm for school families. Did you miss out on the preorder? Email [email protected] and we will hold one for you with an e-transfer. Calendars are only $15.
HELP US FILL OUR CCC DONATION BOX WITH TOYS! You may have noticed a donation box at the doors of the school this week. We would love to see an outpouring of community support for Community Christmas Care! Amidst COVID, CCC has decided to continue with operations and are in the beginning stages of developing what this year will look like. In order to work with a minimal core team at the depot, CCC will not be accepting non-perishable food of any kind, instead focusing primaril...y on cash and toy donations. This allows the organization to use its buying power to purchase large quantities of bulk food, as well as some grocery cards for each hamper. All donations of toys and gifts will be collected from SWS on Friday, Dec. 11 at 9 am. You can send e-transfers to [email protected] or donate online via https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/m/12885/donation. Happy Holidays!
We love games! Our students ha e been working on creating board games this year. Pictured here are Koyuki, Ella, Isabella and Quinn with their Jungle Journey game created for the Grade 1 class. Encouraging reading and counting, following direction, imagination all with a built in sense of adventure!
This year we set up the tree outside and Class 7-8 decorated it! Great job everyone, the school is looking merry and festive! Special thanks to Vish aka @ninjamama_inblack for doing such a beautiful job on the outside of the school!
Just a light dusting today ... in preparation for making Kindergarten bread!
It’s beginning to look a lot like #christmas
Parents! Tonight at 5:30 pm (cocktail hour for those of you that are inclined) the school association will host its annual annual general meeting (AGM) and provide an update on the school's overall state, the latest developments on the potential new school location and build, and financials. New board members will also be voted on. Really, it's not as dry as it sounds... especially if you bring a small charcuterie board to your screening device! Given the lack of in-person s...chool community we are all experiencing due to Covid, we want to encourage ALL parents to join via the Zoom link sent out by email. The meeting is expected to last 30 minutes. Please contact [email protected] if you can't find the link!
This is the season we celebrate Advent. A beautiful spiral of cedar boughs decorated with crystals and the candles is laid. Each child adds their own light to illuminate the dark times we experience this time of year, transforming a completely dark space to one that is lit in warmth and beauty.
How was your weekend? Monday morning Kindergarten catch-ups are just as important as any other
Martinmas, or the festival of St. Martin, is celebrated around November 11 in Waldorf schools with a nighttime lantern walkoften with songs followed by autumn treats. Like Halloween, Martinmas is rooted in Christian ritual but is now more of a cultural event, anticipated by children in many European countries. The essence of the holidaymarking the end of the fall harvest and the advent of snowy weatherreminds us that through all of life’s outward changes we maintain withi...n us the warm light of our spirit.
