Well Squatchers...here we are, half way through the year already. Tomorrow is Canada Day and we just wanted to let our Wednesday customers know that we WILL be around to pick up the trash the same as every week. Enjoy your day, and stay well.

Beginning July 6, 2020 changes to cardboard disposal at the Quesnel Landfill will be in effect. Commercial drop-off: All commercial cardboard will be directed... to go over the scale and dropped in a bin on the other side with no charge at this time. Residential drop-off: Residents are being urged to continue to drop off cardboard at the Recycle BC Depot https://www.quesnel.ca/recycling-depot as residential cardboard is not permitted to be disposed of at the landfill. As we move forward through Covid 19 and the many repercussions it has had on health and the economy, The BC governemt has released a plan to begin opening up the province while still trying to keep everyone as safe as possible. Solid advice from the UK

Please be advised there is an error on the utility invoices for anyone receiving commercial garbage pickup. Since commercial garbage pickup is ending June 30, 2...020, the invoices should have charged six months service but instead only charged for three months. New utility invoices to the affected customers will be sent out next week. If you would like the information earlier on the change to your invoice, please contact City Hall at 250-992-2111 or 410 Kinchant Street. See more

Commercial garbage services ending June 30, 2020 October 30, 2019 News Release The City of Quesnel intends to exit the Commercial garbage collection business as of June 30, 2020. This will include all facilities serviced by trade waste containers, both commercial buildings and apartment buildings, and all commercial buildings serviced with residential sized carts.... Exiting the commercial garbage business will enable the City to turn its focus to look for more ways to promote waste diversion to extend the life of the landfill. The City’s landfill capital costs are increasing as the current footprint is expected to be full in 2040 and options are being reviewed to expand the landfill area. The City has never provided commercial garbage collection in South Quesnel and there are several waste management companies already operating in that area that the City expects will move into this market. The City’s collection costs for commercial garbage only covered the cost of collection, it did not cover the cost of landfilling the waste received. Private operators that move into this business will have to cover both costs so the costs for commercial garbage pickup will likely increase. The City’s collection service will continue until June 30, 2020. All affected businesses and apartment buildings will be billed for 6 months service on their annual utility billing from the City in February. It is important that each business arrange with a private operator for commercial garbage pickup after June 30, 2020. Hello Squatchers! Happy autumn! This coming Saturday, September 28th, we will be doing our run after 2pm. During the day, we will be taking part in the Quesnel Child Development Center's fundraiser. Touch A Truck lets kids get up close and personal with a variety of trucks and equipment. Hoping the weather will cooperate and give us some sunshine. Stop by and visit us.
