Bubble Gum Pink..such a happy colour....a poppy my mom gave me 25 years ago that I have seeded throughout the property. If anyone knows the variety please let me know. How I eliminated scale on variegated euonymus. This specimen is well over 20 years old with gaul knots at the base as well as finally assaulted by scale. After thinking about the problem I realized it was too dense. What had I to lose...spraying providing only short term success even with the effort of cleanin...g up what I thought were all the leaves. Aiming for pristine can take forever. Prune.... and I love pruning...that did the trick. Let the plant breathe. It is all about air circulation. I should have amended the soil but the only thing i did was air it out. Mature plants are full and beautiful but they need air particularly with humidity. I was told to throw out my euonymus with its gaul but it has survived gaul and scale and I love its form. Try pruning. Its fun! Treat in the front yard! Wild turkeys. Wish they would show up more often. See more

Not as many Artists participated because it was supposed to pour but it turned out a fabulous day on all accounts.Totally enjoyed all the visitors and the all the talented Artists we met. Thank you Bob and Kathie Belly for sending this fabulous Bluebird picture taken during your visit. Please come back again.
Liriodendron Tulipifera ( tulip tree ). Often the Magnolia is called a tulip tree but this is the real tulip tree. Ours is a columnar. form. It takes approximately 8 to 10 years before it flowers but well worth the wait. The flower often goes unnotised. Once discovered a very special treat! Teachers take note the leaves make great cat faces for children. In flower now. Pictures taken by our new American Friends visiting Squirrel House Gardens Bob and Kathie Belly.
Indian Paint, ( Castile. ) or Prairie Fire. The Native North Americans used it to enhance the immune system as well as condiments. Can contain high amounts of selenium. Do not eat plants until you research the plarts that can be eaten. Indian Paint has similar benefits to garlic. Only eat the flower. This is a picture of our indian Paint however I have lost it.... run over by the Peltiphyllum Peltatum ( umbrella plant ) which is a prized plant but a hog. Does anyone know where to buy one locally...or perhaps I could swap one of my plants. 905 685 1608
A cloud of frothy flowers, CRAMBE CORDIFOLIA, often mistaken for baby breath. Most plants on the property have been divided but I have held myself back with this one. Sturdy and happy once it gets going but does not like to be divided. In full glory right now. Yesterday someone dropped by thinking GARDEN DAYS CELEBRATION was already on ...it is next weekend but what we discovered was they got lost. Everyone gets lost. Please note we are 1819 Fifth Street off of Third Avenue.... Look forward to sharing our garden. Remember your hats for free entry. See more
Please share with friends! Don't forget your hat for free admission. Please enlarge for better viewing.
American Pillar Climbing Rose. Hot pink flowers but the real bonus is the foliage is deliciously fragrant very much like heritage green apples. Not a repeat bloomer but so worth it!
How beautiful is this!
Reliable Nellie Moser Clematis. Works in semi shade as well as full sun. Tip, underplant Jap Maples or standards with a clematis for added punch!
What a pretty visiitor!
Spiderwort ( Tradescantia )and Peonies still standing. Please stop raining!! Peonies, hardly survivors manage to live for 50 years or more but they can not survive the rain. Spiderwort on the other hand manages to stand up to the pelting rain. Spiderwort will repeat blossom if you cut it back. The 3 petaled flower will attract butterflies...for those with difficult soil spiderwort is a good addition.
