What a cute little activity to try! If you are afraid your child might fall, do it on the grass! Variations: -sorting activity- Have different color cups at the end and have the child bring different color objects to sort. Or have objects to sort by function or size. They can sort literally anything! -make this into more of a sensory activity by using objects with different textures to transport in the cups... -have the child place the objects into a water tube of container when they get to the finish line See more

Independence! Often, children are viewed as unable to do certain tasks. We want to challenge the narrative about this thought! How often could we say, yes ...to the little ones in our lives when they ask to help with a chore? How many times a day are we saying, no? Are children unable or can we provide them with more opportunities to practice the skill? Can it be an absolute pain to have to clean up after them? Yes. The work they are doing during these opportunities of independence is priceless though. When we provide our children with consistent opportunities to practice skills in a safe environment with encouragement and no expectations we provide them with confidence in their abilities! Something as simple as turning the spinner to clean the for lunch is engaging and appropriate for many developmental stages! The gross & fine motor skills that are gained through this seemingly unimportant activity are amazing. Not to mention, the connections in the brain being made regarding cause & effect, sensory exploration, (sound, touch, smell & sight) its all very exciting when youre experiencing it for the first time! So let your kids do safe stuff in the kitchen, include them in meal making - even if you dont think they understand what youre talking about, explain what youre doing anyway. The worst that could happen is they become a world-renown chef! Note: Many people have higher needs and/or barriers that mean providing opportunities for independence looks different. Each human and their needs are different! Thats why, at ECIP, we are relationship-based & child-centred. We work with families to know their needs and challenges to set them up for success! #ecip #yqr #salad #independence #spinthatsalad #letthemdothething

Egg Carton Push & Pull Game This is a great game for children to practice their fine motor skills, hand and eye coordination and more. You could even do colo...r matching by matching colors drawing around the holes. All you need is an empty egg carton and some straws. We had some smoothie straws on hand so we used those. Simply poke a hole with a scissors in the middle of every cups. Let your child push the straws in. If you dont have straws, you could use sticks, q-tips, crayons, etc.

P l a y a t H o m e I d e a Object permanence box This activity really helps babies to understanding the concept of object permanence. This is... the understanding that something still exists even when it cannot he seen, heard, touched, smelled or sensed in any way. I just cut some holes out of a cardboard box, taped around the edges so they were smooth and let Aureya take objects in and out. Development promoted: object permanence hand-eye coordination cognitive skills See more

Day 2: Tips for Helping Children Wear Face Masks. There are many noticeable changes as we adjust to life with COVID-19. One such change is increased use of fac...e masks or facial coverings. Wearing a mask is important and will help us stop the spread of COVID-19. It is important to note that masks are only for children over two years of age. Your child may not want to wear a mask and/or have a hard time keeping it one. Mask wearing can be especially challenging for children living with sensory processing differences. Such children may be more sensitive to the way the mask feels on their face, head, and ears. Some children may feel panicked when a mask is put on them. Other kids won't like the way the mask looks on themselves or others and might feel scared. And still other children are resistant simply because it is different and doing something that is different is hard for them. Let's strive to be patient and kind as we help all children, families and community members adjust to this change. The following tips offer some strategies and supports for children in our community. If following review of the tips, you have additional ideas that have worked for you, please comment and share. Your ideas may just be the answer for another child and family.
