Great news campers! We have reopened some of the washroom and shower facilities at the municipal campgrounds. Facilities include: Port Elgin: Ball diamond washrooms and showers Southampton: Camp 2 washrooms Southampton: Camp 3 (south end washrooms) ... We’ve limited the number of facilities in order to keep physical distance and maintain a thorough cleaning schedule.
We wish you a happy and safe camping season. Here are a few of our safety precautions and reminders.
An update for our transient overnight campers - We know you've been looking forward to coming to Saugeen Shores and enjoying our beautiful area. Unfortunately we've had to make the difficult decision to suspend transient camping for the 2020 camping season. Any campers that have already booked transient camp sites with us will be contacted directly. We appreciate everyone’s patience. Our transient sites are available as seasonal sites for 2020 only. Contact us at 519-832-2008 ext 131 or [email protected] to inquire.

We are excited to announce that the Port Elgin and Southampton Tourist Camps will open to seasonal permit holders on Monday, June 1, 2020 at 9:00 am. Due to COVID-19, the operation of the Camps will be significantly different than in normal years. Campers will be required to follow a COVID-19 Code of Conduct for 2020, which is being sent out to all seasonal permit holders. Access for visitors and transient overnight campers remains closed. We look forward to your return this summer and thank you for your patience as we work through these unprecedented times.
Although the Port Elgin and Southampton Tourist Camps remain closed at this time, we understand campers' eagerness to gain access to their trailers to check on their status or retrieve some urgent items. From Thursday, May 21 to Sunday, May 24, 2020, seasonal site owners can access their trailers under these controlled conditions: --Between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm only... --Maximum of 2 hours at the camp --Even numbered campsites are allowed on even numbered days and odd numbered campsites on odd numbered days --All amenities are CLOSED (i.e. washrooms, office, playgrounds) --Electricity is on (during day only) --Water is on --Urgent requirements only - no trailer or site maintenance Read more in our letter to seasonal campers: http://ow.ly/oAD450zHzwC
As work to prepare harbours, boat launches and municipal campgrounds for use has only recently been allowed, further announcements related to their openings will be coming soon. The Port Elgin and Southampton Municipal Campgrounds will therefore remain closed during the upcoming long weekend and walkthrough access is still prohibited. Read more: ow.ly/EwHY50zGCXq
We know many of you are eager to visit your site to clean up the yard and check up on your trailer. However, the municipal campgrounds are currently closed and off-limits to both campers and the public. As campers are unable to check in on their sites, Town staff will inspect campground properties closely in the coming weeks and appreciate everyone’s understanding during these challenging times. To our campers, we’d like the remind you that both the Port Elgin and Southampton municipal campgrounds are closed, including for day visits. We know you’re eager to visit but ask that you follow the advice of our public health officials to avoid all non-essential travel and stay home.
This past Tuesday the Town of Saugeen Shores declared a state of emergency. Please listen to this message from Mayor Luke Charbonneau. To stay up to date with changes in our community, visit SaugeenShores.ca/COVID-19 #SaugeenShoresStrong
We have received some questions about the opening of our Municipal Campgrounds this year. Saugeen Shores staff are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in Ontario. We will reassess the situation closer to the campgrounds' regular opening dates and inform campers and the public at that time. For all outside parks and facilities, visit www.SaugeenShores.ca/COVID-19 for the latest information.
Reminder- Halloween will be taking place in the Port Elgin camp starting at 5:30 Saturday night! So don't forget your costumes. Orange pumpkin posters can be picked up at the main office for trailers looking to hand out treats.

Kids Scavenger hunt and BBQ Sunday, September 1, 2019 Hunt starts @ 11:00AM BBQ starts @ 12:00PM Hunt Volunteers:... Volunteers are needed to have stations set up with treats or treasures for the kids. If you are interested in being a volunteer, please respond on either one of the camps Facebook pages, at the office on the sign-up sheet, or with Katherine at lot 141. We usually expect approx. 150 kids for this event so if you would like to pair up with a neighbour or friend to split the cost then that’s fine too. Anyone with a station must have balloons for the day of so that the kids can recognize that it’s one of their stops. Balloons can be picked up either at the office or at lot 141. BBQ Volunteers: Volunteers are also needed to help BBQ for the day of the scavenger hunt. Please respond as above (Facebook, office, lot 141) if you are able to help out. We need lots of volunteers and would really like to keep this event going for the kids!
