The Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre (OCCSC) is one of the city’s earliest immigrant settlement agencies. Originally established to assist the wave of Chinese immigrants to the City, it is currently serving all nationalities of newcomers to the City. Early 2016,OCCSC decided to contribute and respond to Canada’s commitment to help resettle Syrian refugees in Ottawa. Our new Open House Event was held to introduce to our distinguished guests and organizations the "Serv...ices For Syrian Refugees Program" and its achievements over the last year. This event included a reception,special presentations ,networking with other organizations and enjoyed some light refreshments made by our beloved Syrian families!

To best serve our Syrian Refugees and Newcomers, we have tailored the workshop to give them a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities for when they become Canadian Citizens. The workshop focused on Canada's history and heritage as well as preparing them for their citizenship test. All participants received the study guide, Discover Canada: The Rights And Responsibilities Of Citizenship. In celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, OCCSC launched the Syrian Hosting Initiative. Which is a platform to match professional volunteers in different walks of life to Syrian newcomers. The main objective is to integrate Syrian newcomers to Canada with the help of 150 volunteers.
