Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $600 million in funding to help small- and medium-sized businesses deal with possible lockdowns amid a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

From our economic recovery to personal protective equipment, today’s virtual meetings with business leaders and partners across British Columbia covered a whole... range of topics. But one thing was clear: British Columbians are hard at work to make sure people across the country can get through this pandemic. This morning, I connected with business leaders to talk about Canada’s economic recovery and how it needs to be equitable, inclusive, and green. I also met with professors and researchers from the University of British Columbia who have been stepping up to help us defeat COVID-19, and they shared their innovations for personal protective equipment. And to end the day, I connected with Premier Horgan to talk about the work we’re doing together to keep people across the province safe and healthy.

This morning in Montreal, we announced the steps we’re taking to make sure we have access to potential COVID-19 vaccines. Because as more people head back to wo...rk and our kids step back into the classroom, we’re staying focused on keeping everyone safe and healthy. That’s why we’ve signed two new agreements - one with Novavax, one with Johnson & Johnson - to reserve millions of doses of the vaccines they’re developing. Thanks to these agreements and our previous agreements with Pfizer and Moderna, we have reserved at least 88 million doses of potential vaccines, with options to obtain tens of millions more. And because we’ll also need to produce and distribute an eventual vaccine here at home, we're investing in the expansion of this National Research Council facility in Montreal. By next year, the bio-manufacturing facility here at Royalmount will be able to produce up to two million doses per month to help keep us safe.
