Psalm 95:1-7a 95:1 O come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! 95:2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!... 95:3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. 95:4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. 95:5 The sea is his, for he made it, and the dry land, which his hands have formed. 95:6 O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! 95:7a For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand

Ezekiel 34:11-16, 20-24 34:11 For thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will search for my sheep, and will seek them out. 34:12 As shepherds seek out their flocks when they are among their scattered sheep, so I will seek out my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places to which they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness.... 34:13 I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses, and in all the inhabited parts of the land. 34:14 I will feed them with good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel shall be their pasture; there they shall lie down in good grazing land, and they shall feed on rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 34:15 I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will make them lie down, says the Lord GOD. 34:16 I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them with justice. 34:20 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD to them: I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. 34:21 Because you pushed with flank and shoulder, and butted at all the weak animals with your horns until you scattered them far and wide, 34:22 I will save my flock, and they shall no longer be ravaged; and I will judge between sheep and sheep. 34:23 I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd. 34:24 And I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them; I, the LORD, have spoken. The Good Shepherd Images of women agricultural workers became a popular subject in French painting of the mid-late 19th century. Julien Dupre drew on that popular theme and moved it to allegory, with the naming of a shepherdess as the "good shepherd." Christ, the spiritual Good Shepherd, becomes a calming presence without being pictured, simply by the artist's use of sheep, staff/rod, and one who tends the flock. Gospel of Matthew 25:31-46 25:31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 25:32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats,... 25:33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 25:34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 25:35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 25:36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.' 25:37 Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 25:38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 25:39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?' 25:40 And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.' 25:41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 25:42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 25:43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' 25:44 Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?' 25:45 Then he will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' 25:46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." PSALM 96,1-13 96:1 O sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. 96:2 Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day.... 96:3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples. 96:4 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be revered above all gods. 96:5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. 96:6 Honor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 96:7 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 96:8 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts. 96:9 Worship the LORD in holy splendor; tremble before him, all the earth. 96:10 Say among the nations, "The LORD is king! The world is firmly established; it shall never be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity." 96:11 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; 96:12 let the field exult, and everything in it. Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy 96:13 before the LORD; for he is coming, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with his truth. Autumn Foliage, 1915 Artist: Thomson, Thomas John, 1877-1917 Building: Art Gallery of Ontario

Apprehend God in all things, for God is in all things. Every single creature is full of God and is a book about God. Every creature is a word of God. If I spent enough time with the tiniest creatureeven a caterpillarI would never have to prepare a sermon. So full of God is every creature.... Meister Eckhart 14. Century

GLOBAL WAVE OF LIGHT 2020 Infant Loss Remembrance Day "Up, cry out in the night-time in the early hours of darkness;... pour your heart out like water before the Eternal One. Stretch out your hands to him for the lives of your children." Lamentation 2,19 God, be near us, be our strength... We remember our lives, the way they were before our child died. How we yearn for those moments when all was well, when we looked forward to future growth together.... Every season will bring memories to us. Everywhere we turn we will recall the gift of our loved one. We will always remember the joys and treasures of our dear one... There will be forever an empty spot in our lives because we have lost our child. He/she can never be replaced. We search for inner peace, and we strain for a sense of acceptance of this reality... Many feelings stir within us. We hurt with the heartache of our loss. Help us to believe that the sorrow will lessen as the days go on... Our relationship with one another is influenced by this death of our child. It may be hard to share the terrible ache, to enter into the other's sorrow. Help us to share this heavy burden of loss. May our relationship grow stronger, not weaker, may our love deepen, not lessen, as we go through this grief together... The children who live with us need our attention and our love. May our grief over our child who has died not take away the love and affection which are so rightly theirs and which is so necessary for their own grieving time... We long for consolation and peace in our lives. We want to believe that our beloved child rests in the tender care of your loving arms, God. Deepen the belief in us that our child is home with you... Psalm 105 1 Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 2 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.... 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. 4 Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. 5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, 6 you his servants, the descendants of Abraham, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob. 37 He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no one faltered. 38 Egypt was glad when they left, because dread of Israel had fallen on them. 39 He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night. 40 They asked, and he brought them quail; he fed them well with the bread of heaven. 41 He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a river in the desert. 42 For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham. 43 He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy; 44 he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for 45 that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the Lord.

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church 20.08.2020

Gospel of Matthew 18:21-35 18:21 Then Peter came and said to him, "Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times?" 18:22 Jesus said to him, "Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.... 18:23 "For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves. 18:24 When he began the reckoning, one who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him; 18:25 and, as he could not pay, his lord ordered him to be sold, together with his wife and children and all his possessions, and payment to be made. 18:26 So the slave fell on his knees before him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything. 18:27 And out of pity for him, the lord of that slave released him and forgave him the debt. 18:28 But that same slave, as he went out, came upon one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred denarii; and seizing him by the throat, he said, Pay what you owe. 18:29 Then his fellow slave fell down and pleaded with him, Have patience with me, and I will pay you. 18:30 But he refused; then he went and threw him into prison until he would pay the debt. 18:31 When his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place. 18:32 Then his lord summoned him and said to him, You wicked slave! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. 18:33 Should you not have had mercy on your fellow slave, as I had mercy on you? 18:34 And in anger his lord handed him over to be tortured until he would pay his entire debt. 18:35 So my heavenly Father will also do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother or sister from your heart." Exodus 14:19-31 14:19 The angel of God who was going before the Israelite army moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from in front of them and took its place behind them. 14:20 It came between the army of Egypt and the army of Israel. And so the cloud was there with the darkness, and it lit up the night; one did not come near the other all night.... 14:21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into dry land; and the waters were divided. 14:22 The Israelites went into the sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their left. 14:23 The Egyptians pursued, and went into the sea after them, all of Pharaohs horses, chariots, and chariot drivers. 14:24 At the morning watch the LORD in the pillar of fire and cloud looked down upon the Egyptian army, and threw the Egyptian army into panic. 14:25 He clogged their chariot wheels so that they turned with difficulty. The Egyptians said, "Let us flee from the Israelites, for the LORD is fighting for them against Egypt." 14:26 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, so that the water may come back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots and chariot drivers." 14:27 So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at dawn the sea returned to its normal depth. As the Egyptians fled before it, the LORD tossed the Egyptians into the sea. 14:28 The waters returned and covered the chariots and the chariot drivers, the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea; not one of them remained. 14:29 But the Israelites walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their left. 14:30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day from the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 14:31 Israel saw the great work that the LORD did against the Egyptians. So the people feared the LORD and believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses. Santa Maria Maggiore (Church : Rome, Italy) Object/Function: Mosaic Material: Glass City/Town: Rome Country: Italy

Psalm 103:(1-7), 8-13 103:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits--... 103:3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 103:4 who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 103:5 who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagles. 103:6 The LORD works vindication and justice for all who are oppressed. 103:7 He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel. 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. 103:9 He will not always accuse, nor will he keep his anger forever. 103:10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. 103:11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; 103:12 as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us. 103:13 As a father has compassion for his children, so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him.

Gospel of Luke 11,14-17 The Message 11-13 It happened that as he made his way toward Jerusalem, he crossed over the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten men, all lepers, met him. They kept their distance but raised their voices, calling out, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us! 14-16 Taking a good look at them, he said, Go, show yourselves to the priests.... They went, and while still on their way, became clean. One of them, when he realized that he was healed, turned around and came back, shouting his gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus’ feet, so grateful. He couldn’t thank him enoughand he was a Samaritan. 17-19 Jesus said, Were not ten healed? Where are the nine? Can none be found to come back and give glory to God except this outsider? Then he said to him, Get up. On your way. Your faith has healed and saved you. Art: Ten Lepers by Bill Hoover, 2013

PSALM 23 New King James Version The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.... 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. 18:16 But if you are not listened to, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses.... 18:17 If the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. 18:18 Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 18:19 Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 18:20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them."

Gospel of Matthew 21:33-46 21:33 "Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenants and went to another country. 21:34 When the harvest time had come, he sent his slaves to the tenants to collect his produce.... 21:35 But the tenants seized his slaves and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. 21:36 Again he sent other slaves, more than the first; and they treated them in the same way. 21:37 Finally he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' 21:38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and get his inheritance.' 21:39 So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. 21:40 Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" 21:41 They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the harvest time." 21:42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures: 'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is amazing in our eyes'? 21:43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that produces the fruits of the kingdom. 21:44 The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls." 21:45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them. 21:46 They wanted to arrest him, but they feared the crowds, because they regarded him as a prophet. Exodus 12:1-14 12:1 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt: 12:2 This month shall mark for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year for you.... 12:3 Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth of this month they are to take a lamb for each family, a lamb for each household. 12:4 If a household is too small for a whole lamb, it shall join its closest neighbor in obtaining one; the lamb shall be divided in proportion to the number of people who eat of it. 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a year-old male; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 12:6 You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole assembled congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at twilight. 12:7 They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 12:8 They shall eat the lamb that same night; they shall eat it roasted over the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 12:9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted over the fire, with its head, legs, and inner organs. 12:10 You shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. 12:11 This is how you shall eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it hurriedly. It is the Passover of the LORD. 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both human beings and animals; on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD. 12:13 The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live: when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. 12:14 This day shall be a day of remembrance for you. You shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD; throughout your generations you shall observe it as a perpetual ordinance.

Exodus 20:1-4, 7-9, 12-20 20:1 Then God spoke all these words: 20:2 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;... 20:3 you shall have no other gods before me. 20:4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 20:7 You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not acquit anyone who misuses his name. 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy. 20:9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work. 20:12 Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. 20:13 You shall not murder. 20:14 You shall not commit adultery. 20:15 You shall not steal. 20:16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 20:17 You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. 20:18 When all the people witnessed the thunder and lightning, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking, they were afraid and trembled and stood at a distance, 20:19 and said to Moses, "You speak to us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak to us, or we will die." 20:20 Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid; for God has come only to test you and to put the fear of him upon you so that you do not sin." Gospel of Matthew 14:22-33 14:22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 14:23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,... 14:24 but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. 14:25 And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. 14:26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out in fear. 14:27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, "Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid." 14:28 Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." 14:29 He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. 14:30 But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" 14:31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" 14:32 When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 14:33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."

Genesis 33 Jacob Meets Esau 33 Jacob looked up and there was Esau, coming with his four hundred men; so he divided the children among Leah, Rachel and the two female servants. 2 He put the female servants and their children in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph in the rear. 3 He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother.... 4 But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept. 5 Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. Who are these with you? he asked. Jacob answered, They are the children God has graciously given your servant. 6 Then the female servants and their children approached and bowed down. 7 Next, Leah and her children came and bowed down. Last of all came Joseph and Rachel, and they too bowed down. 8 Esau asked, Whats the meaning of all these flocks and herds I met? To find favor in your eyes, my lord, he said. 9 But Esau said, I already have plenty, my brother. Keep what you have for yourself. 10 No, please! said Jacob. If I have found favor in your eyes, accept this gift from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favorably. 11 Please accept the present that was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me and I have all I need. And because Jacob insisted, Esau accepted it. 12 Then Esau said, Let us be on our way; Ill accompany you. 13 But Jacob said to him, My lord knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young. If they are driven hard just one day, all the animals will die. 14 So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the flocks and herds before me and the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir. 15 Esau said, Then let me leave some of my men with you. But why do that? Jacob asked. Just let me find favor in the eyes of my lord. 16 So that day Esau started on his way back to Seir. 17 Jacob, however, went to Sukkoth, where he built a place for himself and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place is called Suk 18 After Jacob came from Paddan Aram,[b] he arrived safely at the city of Shechem in Canaan and camped within sight of the city. 19 For a hundred pieces of silver,[c] he bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, the plot of ground where he pitched his tent. 20 There he set up an altar and called it El Elohe Israel.

Gospel of Matthew 14:13-21 14:13 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. 14:14 When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick.... 14:15 When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves." 14:16 Jesus said to them, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." 14:17 They replied, "We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish." 14:18 And he said, "Bring them here to me." 14:19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 14:20 And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. 14:21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Psalm 145:8-9, 14-21 145:8 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. 145:9 The LORD is good to all, and his compassion is over all that he has made.... 145:14 The LORD upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down. 145:15 The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. 145:16 You open your hand, satisfying the desire of every living thing. 145:17 The LORD is just in all his ways, and kind in all his doings. 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. 145:19 He fulfills the desire of all who fear him; he also hears their cry, and saves them. 145:20 The LORD watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. 145:21 My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and all flesh will bless his holy name forever and ever.

Genesis 32:22-31 32:22 The same night he got up and took his two wives, his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 32:23 He took them and sent them across the stream, and likewise everything that he had.... 32:24 Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. 32:25 When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he struck him on the hip socket; and Jacobs hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. 32:26 Then he said, "Let me go, for the day is breaking." But Jacob said, "I will not let you go, unless you bless me." 32:27 So he said to him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." 32:28 Then the man said, "You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed." 32:29 Then Jacob asked him, "Please tell me your name." But he said, "Why is it that you ask my name?" And there he blessed him. 32:30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved." 32:31 The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip.

Genesis 29:15-28 29:15 Then Laban said to Jacob, "Because you are my kinsman, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall your wages be?" 29:16 Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.... 29:17 Leahs eyes were lovely, and Rachel was graceful and beautiful. 29:18 Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, "I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel." 29:19 Laban said, "It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to any other man; stay with me." 29:20 So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her. 29:21 Then Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife that I may go in to her, for my time is completed." 29:22 So Laban gathered together all the people of the place, and made a feast. 29:23 But in the evening he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob; and he went in to her. 29:24 (Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah to be her maid.) 29:25 When morning came, it was Leah! And Jacob said to Laban, "What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?" 29:26 Laban said, "This is not done in our country--giving the younger before the firstborn. 29:27 Complete the week of this one, and we will give you the other also in return for serving me another seven years." 29:28 Jacob did so, and completed her week; then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel as a wife.

Gospel of Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43 13:24 He put before them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good seed in his field; 13:25 but while everybody was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and then went away.... 13:26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared as well. 13:27 And the slaves of the householder came and said to him, Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where, then, did these weeds come from? 13:28 He answered, An enemy has done this. The slaves said to him, Then do you want us to go and gather them? 13:29 But he replied, No; for in gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. 13:30 Let both of them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn." 13:36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples approached him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field." 13:37 He answered, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man; 13:38 the field is the world, and the good seed are the children of the kingdom; the weeds are the children of the evil one, 13:39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. 13:40 Just as the weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. 13:41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, 13:42 and they will throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 13:43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Psalm 139:1-12, 23-24 139:1 O LORD, you have searched me and known me. 139:2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.... 139:3 You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. 139:4 Even before a word is on my tongue, O LORD, you know it completely. 139:5 You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. 139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it. 139:7 Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? 139:8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. 139:9 If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, 139:10 even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast. 139:11 If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night," 139:12 even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you. 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. 139:24 See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
