Cemetery: In the older section of the Deadman's Cove cemetery there are a few graves that have dropped, some more than others. This makes it difficult to cut the grass on such plots, etc. Family members are encouraged to fill these graves with the sand/fill provided at the cemetery. The sand is located across from the gate entrance to the cemetery. If you are unable to do this work, please let the Cemetery Committee know and some help will be provided. Thank you.....Cemetery Committee.

For those of you wondering when church services will resume, the bishop has said that the earliest will be after September 7. Last week, the government outlined the regulations regarding the reopening of places of worship. There are many guidelines to be followed and a lot of work to prepare for reopening. Please check out the government website. Follow the links to access the information: - gov.nl.ca... - click on the yellow bar for COVID-19 information - Alert Level 2 information - Scroll down to Public Spaces and Gatherings - Click on Places of Worship with restrictions Hopefully this will shed some light on why we are not reopening yet. We will continue to open the church on Sundays from 2-3 for weekly offering until we reopen for services. Thank you for continuing with these givings to help with monthly bills which include a loan payment for work on the church and cemetery that was started in the fall and should be completed before the summer ends. We also have to continue paying our assessment to the parish, which is a substantial amount. Please share this information to friends and family.

Cemetery Its that time of the year again for regular grass cutting at the Deadmans Cove cemetery. It is quite a large expense to pay for this throughout the summer and money is very tight at this time. We are asking everyone to please keep this in mind when submitting your offering. Also, please ask others who have family members buried in the cemetery to consider contributing to the cemetery fund. Please remember that whoever is cutting the grass will not be moving anythin...g that is on the graves (flowers, solar lights, plaques, etc.) when mowing as this would be very time-consuming. Therefore, if there is anything on your loved ones graves, you will be responsible for cutting the grass on these. If anyone has any questions or concerns regarding the cemetery, please call one of the wardens (Lloyd Blake 885-2324 or Ron Jensen 885-2092). Thank you for your help in maintaining our cemetery. Remember the options for contributions to St. Bartholomew's: Jacque has set up interac etransfer on the churchs bank account to help people to make contributions. The email address is [email protected]. Use password: offering. (The email and password are all lowercase letters.) When using this option please indicate what the offering is for if different from regular (eg. cemetery, PWRDF, etc.). Also indicate your envelope number if you have one. This etransfer option will continue after the COVID19 crisis is over for those who wish to avail of it. Alternatively, contributions can be dropped off at the church from 2:00 to 3:00 on Sundays. They can also be dropped off at Lloyd and Jacque Blake's house any time during the week. Just knock on the front door, open the door and place your offering in the container provided.

To the Congregations in the Parish of Harbour Breton This is a reminder to all Congregations to continue to make your contributions to your respective Churches. Each congregation has to contribute to the Parish. The Parishs only income is what it receives from each Congregation. The Parish still has to meet its assessment to the Diocese. In addition to this the Parish covers any expenses for the Rectory (Hydro, telephone/internet, photocopier, paper and other office supplie...s, Rectory Insurance, Municipal taxes, Bank Charges), Wine and Communion Wafers for the four Congregations, refills for candles, church envelopes. The Parishs Expenses for a year averages around $110,500.00. This has to come from the Congregations. In addition to this each Congregation has expenses for its Church. For example, St. Bartholomews Expenses for 2019 was $111,142.68. It is very important that we continue with our weekly contributions to our Churches. Rev. Roy+ See more

MORNING PRAYER THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 26 The Penitential Rite The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit: a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not d...espise. Psalm 51.18 Seek the Lord while he wills to be found, call upon him when he draws near; let the wicked forsake their ways, and the evil ones their thoughts; and let them return to the Lord, and he will have compassion, and to our God, for he will richly pardon. Isaiah 55.6, 7 The officiant says to the people: Dear friends in Christ, as we prepare to worship almighty God, let us with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy. The officiant and people say together, Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen. The Absolution Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Lord, open our lips, And our mouth shall proclaim your praise. O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia! The Invitatory Alleluia! The Lord is risen indeed: O come, let us worship Christ our Passover Alleluia! Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us; * therefore let us keep the feast, Not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, *but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Alleluia! Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; * death no longer has dominion over him. The death that he died, he died to sin, once for all; * but the life he lives, he lives to God. So also consider yourselves dead to sin, * and alive to God in Jesus Christ our Lord. Alleluia! Christ has been raised from the dead, * the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by a man came death, * by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, * so also in Christ shall all be made alive. Alleluia The Proclamation of the Word A Reading from Acts But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, "Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified." Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?" Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him." And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added. Psalm 116 1 I love the Lord, because he has heard the voice of my supplication, * because he has inclined his ear to me whenever I called upon him. 2 The cords of death entangled me; the grip of the grave took hold of me; * I came to grief and sorrow. 3 Then I called upon the name of the Lord: * O Lord, I pray you, save my life. 4 Gracious is the Lord and righteous; * our God is full of compassion. 12 I will fulfil my vows to the Lord * in the presence of all his people. 13 Precious in the sight of the Lord * is the death of his servants. 14 O Lord, I am your servant; * I am your servant and the child of your handmaid; you have freed me from my bonds. 15 I will offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving * and call upon the name of the Lord. 16 I will fulfil my vows to the Lord * in the presence of all his people. 17 In the courts of the Lords house, * in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Hallelujah! Eternal God, faithful in your tender compassion, you give us hope for our life here and hereafter through the victory of your only Son. When we share his cup of salvation, revive in us the joy of this everlasting gift. We ask his in his name. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, "What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?" They stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, "Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?" He asked them, "What things?" They replied, "The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but they did not see him. Then he said to them, "Oh, how foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?" Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures. As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, saying, "Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over." So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?" That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven and their companions gathered together. They were saying, "The Lord has risen indeed, and he has appeared to Simon!" Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread. The Gospel of Christ. People Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. SERMON In our Gospel the men who were walking home to their village of Emmaus, returning to their former lives after years of following Jesus had lost all hope. They had given up. They had lost the confidence in the future, they had lost the way forward, so they decided to go back, back to the comfort of their past. They had hoped in Jesus, but now that they had lost hope, they were feeling lost. Until they were found by Jesus on the road. When they were at their lowest, Jesus found them and picked them up. When they were the farthest from God, God in Christ came to them. They were on the road away from Jesus, when Jesus found them. The first thing Jesus did was open the Bible to them and tell them about himself, explaining to them about how this Jesus they were lamenting was really the Messiah of God. Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures. When they got home and invited him in to eat with them. They still didnt know who he was, but they remembered Jesus teaching about welcoming the stranger so they urged him strongly to come in. Then he fed them, When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. Their eyes were opened in the breaking of the bread and they knew who he was. This action of taking bread and blessing it and breaking it, opened their eyes to who Jesus was and how he had died to save them. It also let them know that He was alive, He was risen, He was present in the world to give them life and joy and hope. The Breaking of the Bread gives us hope, for it opens our eyes to the living Christ in our midst. Today with the Covid-19 pandemic and what happened in Nova Scotia our world is full of people who have lost hope. The world is full of people who have lost a vision of goodness. The world is full of people who are wandering dazed and confused, down the road to Emmaus. The world is full of people who are looking for someone or something to lift them up and give them joy again. The promise to us today and every day is that the Risen Christ does come to us in our dashed hopes and shattered dreams. The Risen Christ comes to us in our moments of hospitality and generosity with others, both friends and strangers. The Risen Christ comes to us, and never leaves us alone. So as we struggle with what is happening in our world let us recall the words of Psalm 46 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. God our refuge and our strength, teach us to put our trust in your salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. COLLECT O God, your Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread. Open the eyes of our faith, that we may see him in his redeeming work, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen And now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.
